Hi, should I be using Debian Sarge to have the best openssi experience? Is it even possible to patch the kernel on EL5 64bit? I was trying the FC3 src kernel rpm but the kernel fails to compile. If anyone is looking for paid contract work using openssi, please contact me. -- ----------------- Thank-You Rick Blundell RapidVPS.com ri...@ra... The "cvs login" command returns no files. You need to do a "cvs checkout" afterwards. See the instructions on the sourceforge cvs page, http://ci-linux.sourceforge.net/ Do: cvs -d:pserver:ano...@ci...:/cvsroot/ci-linux login Then cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@ci...:/cvsroot/ci-linux co/*-r WHATEVER*/ ci /**/ replace "WHATEVER" with the CVS tag you want to check out. |

I retract my statement. I said that because recently I looked up openmosix (in error, I mean to find ssi) to find a new release, and saw that openmosix was closed in 2008. Openssi is active and is an excellent project. I have a production ssi server working great. Please keep those contributions coming. I plan to put more time into using openssi. -- ----------------- Thank-You Rick Blundell RapidVPS.com ri...@ra... +1 407 442 2898 On Thu, 2010-12-30 at 23:57 +0000, Dave Paris wrote: > The reports of the death of OpenSSI are greatly exaggerated. :) > > @Rick ..what would possess you to write such a reply? The reports of the death of OpenSSI are greatly exaggerated. :) @Rick ..what would possess you to write such a reply? Are you not on the -developers list? There are active, regular commits which would have indicated a simple domain glitch and not the death of a project. This type of reply is how nasty rumors start, which can lead to the actual death of a project if not actively squashed. The openssi.org domain expired and we renewed it as soon as we can. Most people are on holidays during this time of year. If we look back at Year 2010 this project has been quite active: 1) John made five (5) binary releases for Debian Lenny, Etch, and Sarge. SF.net stats don't tell the whole story since those releases are served from elsewhere. 2) Also John got 64-bit OpenSSI running. 3) ssic-linux repository ChangeLog has 2,183 (thousands) lines of comments for year 2010. 4) Approx. 13,600 (over ten thousand) lines of code for year 2010 for OpenSSI kernel. ... 110 files changed, 8212 insertions(+), 5400 deletions(-) 5) ssic-linux repository has 60 new tags for year 2010 for OpenSSI kernel. 6) Experimental OpenSSI port to RHEL4 kernel. Though the port was not released the prototype was considered successful. 7) Zero releases on SF.net for Fedora Core 3. We chose to wait for release of RHEL4 port. -Roger On Thu, Dec 30, 2010 at 4:22 PM, Rick Blundell <ri...@ra...> wrote: > Openssi project has died. I don't have a good lead on this one, but tell me about your bootloader setup on the initnode, the first machine. Are you using grub? What does the grub.conf look like? Even if you aren't booting the initnode with grub, ssi-ksync expects a correct grub.conf and uses that to generate the netboot materials. But if the kernel went over, I'd at least expect it to try to boot it, even if it didn't make it very far. Maybe grab an old version of your favorite distro from about the same era as the 2.6.12 kernel and try to boot that? In theory, all of the really important hardware should be back compat. Sorry I'm not much use here... Good luck, -scott > > Shane > |

Assuming that gPXE is malfunctioning in a different way than I've seen before, maybe try a 3com card with a bootrom on it. eBay sellers seldom identify and advertise the feature, but if you dig through enough listing photos, eventually you'll find one that has the EPROM/ROM position on the board populated (large dual-inline-pin chip without many pins for its size). -scott On 12/14/10, Scott Walters <sc...@sl...> wrote: >> mkinitrd -o /tftpboot/initrd 2.6.12-ssi-686-smp >> cpio: initrd/lib/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 not created: newer or same age >> version >> exists >> cpio: initrd/lib/libcluster.so.0 not created: newer or same age version >> exists >> 6488+0 records in >> 6488+0 records out >> 6643712 bytes (6.6 MB) copied, 0.433489 s, 15.3 MB/s >> mke2fs 1.40-WIP (14-Nov-2006) >> cpio: ./dev/ida: Cannot stat: No such file or directory >> cpio: ./dev/scsi: Cannot stat: No such file or directory >> cpio: ./dev/ide: Cannot stat: No such file or directory >> cpio: ./dev/mapper: Cannot stat: No such file or directory >> cpio: ./dev/md: Cannot stat: No such file or directory >> cpio: ./dev/cciss: Cannot stat: No such file or directory >> 10189 blocks >> /tftpboot/initrd: 69.5% -- replaced with /tftpboot/initrd.gz > > Looks sane enough. > >> Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] (rev 78) > >> This is a 4-cpu machine and has always ran with a 686 kernel in the past >> so >> I'm not convinced its a kernel issue, tho I am no expert. I am trying to boot a node into my cluster. When I boot the node using etherboot it loads the kernel and then loads the initrd image and then hangs.. numlock key still works but the system does nothing else at this point. I am not sure if this is an issue of a bad initrd image or lack of correct modules loaded. I have the following modules in my initrd image: via_rhine 8139too 3c59x I got a few errors running mkinitrd: mkinitrd -o /tftpboot/initrd 2.6.12-ssi-686-smp cpio: initrd/lib/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 not created: newer or same age version exists cpio: initrd/lib/libcluster.so.0 not created: newer or same age version exists 6488+0 records in 6488+0 records out 6643712 bytes (6.6 MB) copied, 0.433489 s, 15.3 MB/s mke2fs 1.40-WIP (14-Nov-2006) cpio: ./dev/ida: Cannot stat: No such file or directory cpio: ./dev/scsi: Cannot stat: No such file or directory cpio: ./dev/ide: Cannot stat: No such file or directory cpio: ./dev/mapper: Cannot stat: No such file or directory cpio: ./dev/md: Cannot stat: No such file or directory cpio: ./dev/cciss: Cannot stat: No such file or directory 10189 blocks /tftpboot/initrd: 69.5% -- replaced with /tftpboot/initrd.gz I am installing openssi on Debian lenny following this howto http://deb.openssi.org/alpha/openssi-lenny/ I am using the 2.6.12-ssi-686-smp kernel. Dear SSI-Users, is it possible to use a clusterwide RLIMIT_NPROC Limit by implementing the clusterwide /proc-FS? Thanks Andreas |

Dear all, Just a quick note on how I managed to get nfs mounts working on openssi 1.9.6-lenny-preview. The nfs-common version included in openssi is currently 1.0.6-3.1 This source package does not include the all important /sbin/mount.nfs executable. So I downloaded the nfs-utils-1.1.2 source and compiled as follows: apt-get source nfs-utils apt-get build-dep nfs-utils. cd nfs-utils-1.1.2 ./configure make Now copy the exetables to /sbin : cp ./debian/tmp/sbin/* /sbin/. (this will copy mount.nfs, mount.nfs4, umount.nfs and umount.nfs4 to sbin) modify fstab as follows: 192.168.1.1:/exports/ /mnt nfs nolock,auto,defaults,node=1:2 0 0 Yours, - Nathan. |
