"ATT-2.dat" suggests that the recipient is behind perhaps some AT&T ISP or proxy or other such thing that is trying to do some mail filtering. The HTML Mail plugin doesn't create such attachments. You can feel free to send the full message source of such a message, but the solution is likely on the recipient's end, somewhere in their mail server or the connection between their mail server and the Internet (or, I suppose, there could be some outgoing filtering on your services). -- Paul Lesniewski SquirrelMail Team Please support Open Source Software by donating to SquirrelMail! http://squirrelmail.org/donate_paul_lesniewski.php |

Back in 2003, I collaborated with the original plugin author to improve this plugin, adding import and better usability in released version 2.0.3. In 2006, I had an idea for some enhanced functionality. Fredrik Jervfors coded that new functionality (thanks Fredrik!), and posted two updated files to replace those in the Bookmarks archive. The new code: - Enables deletion of a folder with recursive deletion of any subfolders. - Enables function to delete all bookmarks (to prepare to import a fresh set). Fredrik's updated files were never added to the SM site. His update makes this a much more useful tool, so I think that a revised package containing these new files should be added to the SM plugins site. How can we get this "latest" Bookmarks plugin package added to the site? (Perhaps it doesn't conform to current plugin release standards, but it is nonetheless the most recent release with better functionality than what's currently on the plugins page.) I also have ideas and code regarding a possible new and improved Bookmarks plugin. Another author and I had produced a working prototype that was very encouraging. I've contacted him to see if he wants to resume our work. (I had also contacted the original author, who said she isn't interested and hoped someone else would take ownership of the plugin.) |

Hi, If we send an email composed in HTML with some body text and an attachment from squirrel mail to squirrel mail, at receiving end the body text is not received but it is added as an attachment "ATT-2.dat" along with the actual attachment. In short, In my case, for some reason the text part of the body text gets lost and only the attachment part arrives. When we disable the html composition option in Squirrelmail, the mail arrives with both the body text and the attachment fine. So the problem seems to be related to the html_mail plugin. I installed the Standard Squirrel Mail Version 1.4.22 and html_mail plugin and reproduced the issue and can send the webmail URL for testing if required (in Private Only). We are using PHP 5.2.14 on IIS7 and using hMailserver as Mailserver. Any suggestions? -- View this message in context: http://squirrelmail.5843.n7.nabble.com/Body-message-removed-in-html-composition-tp25239.html Sent from the squirrelmail-plugins mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

That is one thing. The other is, our users are largely academic people who are paid for their research and teaching work, and not for remembering at what time the webmail system might be unavailable in the week after next. (We have a notification area prominently placed on the first page of our website, but I think people rarely look at that *before* something does not work.) So I think it is much more effective to have a -- small, though -- display at a place where they cannot overlook it for the relevant time. > I was going to recommend that you still look at > putting it in via config.pl, but I though better of it. I can see where a > user would access the file but you wouldn't want them anywhere near > config.pl or the files in modifies. In my case they are not users in that sense, but my co-workers. They have demonstrated the ability to put a file in a decumented place :-) [1], but fiddling with the configuration of a system that you are not familiar with is not everybody's idea of fun -- certainly not mine, for instance. [1] One of them follows this list, so I have to be careful what I say. ;-) And sure, it doesn't have to be ops people doing that. If you can give *someone* a spot in the file system with the permissions to place such a file, they could do it without being involved in the system's operations at all. This is not the case with our systems, as they run on servers without user access to any of their file systems, but I could certainly imagine such a scenario. Now it could be interesting to combine this functionality with motd somehow. I decided against doing that, because I wanted to make a minimal plugin, for the sake of Doing One Thing Well and follow the KISS principle as well as for keeping the effort quite low. Combining the thing with motd would mean a bigger effort in implementation and in maintenance. If someone wants to have such a thing, I'll be happy with them re-using my code (the little there is -- it is really tiny). BTW, a bit more polishing and I should be done with it; maybe I'll get to it even today. Not RIGHT NOW!! I was going to recommend that you still look at putting it in via config.pl, but I though better of it. I can see where a user would access the file but you wouldn't want them anywhere near config.pl or the files in modifies. I wonder if giving a designated user the ability to modify it via SM Options might make sense. ------- William R. Hi. Hoping for a little help with the above mentioned plugin. I'm using version 3.3-1.2 of the change_sqlpass with SquirrelMail 1.4.21 The plugin seems to work really well but when I change a password it logs me out of squirrel mail with the error message :- "ERROR This page request could not be verified and appears to have expired. Go to the login page" I can then log in with the new password, so its updating the database fine but I think there should be a message. I'm using the en_US language configured in Squirrel. Any pointers would be great. I need to let my users know there is no problem, just log in with the new details. Thanks Rob -- View this message in context: http://squirrelmail.5843.n7.nabble.com/change-sqlpass-message-error-tp25235.html Sent from the squirrelmail-plugins mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

In my eyes controlling that message display through a file has significant benefits: (a) It is easier to use for people who are not familiar with SquirrelMail. I can document it easily with "put a file here with this name" for others to use, but I (and they) might not be comfortable with them fiddling with the configuration. (b) It is easier to control by external automated means, for instance by an at(1) job. And then there is one thing -- I just tried it, and while it is certainly a good thing, it is only shown, like the comment string says, "immediately after a user logs in." This is not quite what I want. We have lots of users with long-running SquirrelMail sessions, and we need to notify those, too. With the automatic reload of the folder frame, the message even shows up automatically when the file is placed there, and it disappears automatically when the file is removed. I like that a lot. This is not to say that the motd is a bad idea, only that *I* have the need for something else. As there has been some interest for my solution, I do intend to separate it into an own plugin soonish. Hi all, I think I found a small issue with CAPTCHA plugin with captcha_php backend using PHP 5.4.x. The issue is that the captcha image does not display on the login page. The error in the apache error log: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sun Jan 20 16:37:12 2013] [error] [client X.X.X.X] PHP Warning: imagejpeg(): Filename cannot be empty in <SQUIRRELMAIL_HOME_DIR_PATH>/plugins/captcha/backends/captcha_php/captcha.php on line 328 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I didn't have the issue with PHP 5.3.x. It seems that the imagejpeg() function behaviour has been changed with PHP 5.4.x. The fix is simple (edit line 328 in <SQUIRRELMAIL_HOME_DIR_PATH>/plugins/captcha/backends/captcha_php/captcha.php): ---------------------------------------------- from: imagejpeg($img, "", (int)$quality); to: imagejpeg($img, NULL, (int)$quality); ---------------------------------------------- Probably this could be fixed in the next version of captch plugin if the author thinks that's an issue. I am not sure if it will work with PHP 5.3.x or lower. Thanks & Best Regards, Boyan Boychev SquirrelMail 1.4.22 PHP Version 5.4.8--pl0-gentoo GD Version bundled (2.0.34 compatible) CAPTCHA 1.2.3 |

If not, I wouldn't bother. I am not a fan of changing production systems without a dire need, so I wouldnt' jump up and immediately put this on all the squirrelmail implementations I run. However, I would definitely install this plugin on any future builds or upgrades if it is available. I think this is an excellent idea, and I hope you get a lot of positive response... |

Today I implemented a "yellow sticker" functionality for SquirrelMail in a plugin -- show some eye-catching text as a "yellow sticker" above the folder list *if* a certain file is present, using the text (HTML, actually) from that file. We have been using functionality like this for a while, mainly to notify our users of planned service outages and the like. The main idea is to make it easy to use by just putting a file with a text somewhere, and the contents is displayed; remove the file and the yellow sticker is gone. Automation via at(1) can make it appear and disappear without human intervention, if necessary. I had implemented a previous version by hacking the code directly into the SquirrelMail proper, but in between I have learned more about plugins and what you can do with them, so I put that code into a plugin I have written for some local things. Now I wonder -- do other people feel the need for such a functionality? I could extract the "yellow sticker" code to a separate, independent plugin, which then could be distributed or even put on the SquirrelMail website, if there is sufficient demand. If not, I wouldn't bother. See the attached screenshot for an example how this could look. Summary: In our installation, the archive_mail plugin has shown to cause the unexpected deletion of e-mail messages. This may or may not apply to other installations. I am not motivated to investigate the problem further by myself, but am willing to help if someone else is interested. The day before yesterday I received a report from one of our users who had tried to use the archive plugin on the over 3000 messages in her Inbox. She set the option to make SquirrelMail display 4000 messages at a time, clocked on "Toggle All" to select all messages, and clicked on "Archive". Several seconds later the message list simply appeared again, only with all messages after March 7 2012 deleted. Investigating the issue, I found I could reproduce it reliably with a large number of messages in a mail folder -- when I click on "Archive", the message list reappears after a short while -- suspiciously short, actually -- and quite a number of messages is deleted, something like 1000 in this scenario. (I did not encounter this when I tested the plugin with a small number of messages to archive, like 20.) In the syslog I found this: Jan 10 17:36:47 09:malawi suhosin[839473]: ALERT - configured POST variable limit exceeded - dropped variable 'msg[995]' (attacker '130.133.10.14', file '/server/webmail/www-devel/src/move_messages.php') (There is nothing in the PHP error log that corresponds to this.) So, apparently suhosin gets suspicious by the size of the POST request and decides to garble it. The commands that squirrelmail sends to the IMAP server (with the squirrelmail imapproxy in between, so we see commands from several connections) are these: A002 SELECT "grossss" A003 EXPUNGE a001 CAPABILITY a001 GETQUOTAROOT "INBOX" A004 EXAMINE "grossss" A005 SELECT "grossss" A006 EXPUNGE A007 EXPUNGE A008 UID SEARCH UID 1:12229 A009 UID FETCH 1:8249 (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE INTERNALDATE BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority Importance Priority Content-Type)]) A010 EXAMINE "grossss" C64 UNSELECT A002 STATUS "INBOX" (MESSAGES UNSEEN RECENT) A003 EXAMINE "Trash" a001 CAPABILITY a001 GETQUOTAROOT "INBOX" C64 UNSELECT A002 SELECT "grossss" A003 EXPUNGE A004 LIST "" "Trash" A005 UID COPY 7255:8249 "Trash" A006 UID STORE 7255:8249 +FLAGS (\Deleted) A007 EXPUNGE C64 UNSELECT A002 SELECT "grossss" A003 EXPUNGE a001 CAPABILITY a001 GETQUOTAROOT "INBOX" A004 EXAMINE "grossss" A005 SELECT "grossss" A006 EXPUNGE A007 EXPUNGE A008 UID SEARCH UID 1:12229 A009 UID FETCH 1:7254 (FLAGS UID RFC822.SIZE INTERNALDATE BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (Date To Cc From Subject X-Priority Importance Priority Content-Type)]) A010 EXAMINE "grossss" C64 UNSELECT So actually the messages were not really deleted, rather moved to the Trash (the second A005/A006/A007 group of commands), which makes the problem only slightly less catastrophic. I cannot find any code that deletes messages or moves them in the archive_mail plugin, so I guess the garbled POST request triggers something else somewhere inside of squirrelmail. I would not totally be surprised if huge requests of other kinds might also trigger unexpected behaviour of a similar kind. (This reminds me a bit of the proverbial nasal demons.) Perhaps it would be possible to tune suhosin to let requests of this size pass, but I don't known when it hits a dangerous size again, so I do not see that as a feasible workaround. Anyway, as this is apparently not easy to fix, I have decided not to pursue the issue further; we will simply no longer use this plugin. In case someone else is more motivated, this is our installation: Base system is Debian-stable on x86_64; PHP 5.3.3-7+squeeze14 and Apache 2.2.16-6+squeeze10 are installed as Debian packages. PHP gets some additional configuration; apart from file paths it is this: ------------------------------------------- upload_max_filesize = 64M post_max_size = 64M memory_limit = 256M suhosin.cookie.max_name_length=128 [Session] session.gc_maxlifetime = 57600 session.save_path = /home/webmail/var/lib/php5 ------------------------------------------- SquirrelMail is a 1.4.22 with some own patches to adapt it to our local situation (display, authentication, that stuff). I *think* they are irrelevant to this issue, but as I have taken over the patches from my predecessor on the job and have not reviewed them in detail -- my fluency in PHP is limited --, I wouldn't swear on that. I can provide the code (or patches) if anyone is interested. (Side note: most of the above probably could have been done in a plugin as I know in between. I will probably even do that if I ever do a replacement of this SquirrelMail installation.) Installed plugins: message_details no version number found; $Id tag: message_details_main.php 14084 2011-01-06 02:44:03Z pdontthink delete_move_next 3.0 quota_usage 1.3.1 add_address 1.0.3 limit_languages 1.0 abook_import_export 1.1 archive_mail 1.2 The specific IMAP server *should* be irrelevant to this issue, but there is the current SquirrelMail imapproxy in front of some version of Perdition in front of dovecot 1.1.20 (all on Debian-stable). Browsers used were Firefox 18.0 (by the reporting user) and Chrome 23.0.1271.97 (by myself), both on Linux (Debian-stable in my case). If anything else is of interest, feel free to ask.
