Hi Franco, The JDBC driver supplied with version 7.1.3 of PostgreSQL was the earliest driver that seemed to supply the required database metadata to build Squirrels object tree. I've noticed is the SQuirreL isn't handling the LONGVARCHAR data type correctly. Hi Mamading, There are known problems with Hotspot in the Sun JDK 1.3.0. Try passing the -classic flag to the VM. E.G. java -classic -cp ... Colin, Thanks for being so gentle (:-). I think I wasn't clear enough, so will try again. Suppose I connect to the mysql port on "dbserver" host, and I can't remember what databases are there. How do I get (or browse/select-from) a list? In kmysql, it puts up a tree display (like squirrel-sql does for the tables in a particular database) listing all databases on the server, and I can "open" a database to see what tables it has, and so on. Hi Marion, If I understand you correctly this should be working. In my case I have 2 databases, test and rupert. I can log into rupert and issue the command select * from test.cb01 and retrieve the results from the test database. or I can issue the following commands successfully: use test; select * from cb01 I'm using a slightly older version of the driver (2.0.7) but a slightly more uptodate version of MySQL (3.23.35a). If its not working one possibility is permissions on the profiles that you use to log in with. I don't have security setup on my test databases. The first beta of 1.1 is now available. SQuirreL now has a plugin architecture and three plugins have been released at the same time. The jEdit plugin allows you to use the text control from the jEdit text editor (http://www.jedit.org). This is a far more powerful text control that the standard Java text area with highlighting styles, bracket matching and more. Requires at least JDK1.3 and SQuirreL SQL Client 1.1beta1. The Look and Feel plugin allows you to change the Look and Feel for SQuirreL SQL Client, as well as change the font used. It ships with both the Kunststoff and SkinLF Look and Feels. Requires at least JDK1.3 and SQuirreL SQL Client 1.1beta1. The SQL Scripts plugin will allow you to save and restore SQL scripts from/to text files as well as generate CREATE TABLE and INSERT scripts for existing tables in a database. Requires at least JDK1.3 and SQuirreL SQL Client 1.1beta1. Is it always coming up in the Metal Look and Feel? Which Look and Feels have you tried? Do you have a problem only with the Skin look and feel or with the builtin Windows and Motif ones as well? There is another version of xerces in your class path at c:\xerces.jar. Although its after the version used by Squirrel this could be the problem. Try removing the %CLASSPATH%; entry from the commnd line in the Squirrel .bat file (you only need it if you are loading JDBC drivers from the classpath).
