[SL] Printing invoices in landscape format (.tex template / pdf / CUPS)

Hi there,

Is anyone printing their invoices in a landscape format, please? I  
have a supplier that sends me their invoices laid out in this way and  
because I usually have few items on an invoice I'd like to do the  
same - I'd like the extra space for item descriptions & notes offered  
by the additional width.

I seem to be having some problems changing invoice.tex to landscape  
format, however, and sending it to a CUPS printer. Emailed PDFs seem  
to come out fine.

I'll be glad to give more details but I don't think there's much  
point unless there's someone else on the list who's either using  
landscape format printing from SL or who happens to be a CUPS expert.  
Please let me know if you are and I'll explain my problems.

What format  are you sending the invoice in? There's a drop-down on  
the email page, the page where you type the email subject & body, to  
choose html, postscript or pdf. The layout for PDF is controlled by  
invoice.tex

Thanks agian for your reply now that i have email working i am stumped on the logo thing.  I have added my logo to /usr/local/sql-ledger directory it has the following perms and onwerships.

It shows up when i edit my letterhead.html but when i send an email it is not there just the border I added and one of those browser palace holder thingys. 

Have this in my letterhead.html what am i doing wrong?

   Check if you have latex and pdflatex installed.


You also have to ensure that $latex = 1 in /usr/local/sql-ledger/sql- 
ledger.conf

Email via PDF works very much out of the box for me - it's the  
learning of LaTeX in order to customise my invoice design that is  
keeping me up at 2am!!

Strange email seems to work great now, however only with html I would like to use PDF.  When i try i get a big red error nothing in my /var/log/messages where does sql-ledger do it's logging?

seems to work hits the postfix log like this and get an email in my yahoo inbox

I've only tried sending invoices by email a couple of times so far  
(I'm about to set up the correct template layout for my invoices &  
then it'll be full-steam ahead), but SL seems to give no confirmation  
- it only adds a general note to the invoice to the effect of "sent  
at 22/10/2006".

What happens when you type at the command line `cat some_file.txt | / 
usr/sbin/sendmail -t yo...@yo...p`? (without the quotes)
What happens when you `echo yo...@yo...p > foo && cat foo  
some_file.txt | /usr/sbin/sendmail -t`? (again without the quotes)

If the messages are not delivered then this is a postfix problem, not  
one with SQL-Ledger.

Check `postqueue -p` immediately after sending, or have `watch -n 0.5  
postqueue -p` running in another terminal.

[SL] Some general questions

Hello all i have a general question that i could not seem to find answers for in the archives or Google.  

I had a user created and he had access to everything I made him an admin and now a bunch of the options are unchecked under access control.  When i check them off again and try to save them nothing happens.  How do i get access to these features again?

Hello again thank you for your reply i played around with nullmailer and could not get it to work. Decieded to fix my postfix install and have it working now, however can not get SL to send mail.  When I try to send an invoce using SL i get no confirmation from SL that anything got send and nothing in my sendmail logs.

This is was appears in my /usr/local/sql-ledger.conf about email.

# location of sendmail
$sendmail = "| /usr/sbin/sendmail -t";

Is this correct for FreeBSD using Postfix? because nothing seems to happen

[SL] Username joe and customer Joes Deli

How can I setup a user called Joe who is also a customer called Joes 
Deli to access SL.
Joe does not need to access all the functions - just the following:

     1.  AR reports (AR Transactions, AR outstanding, AR Aging) and user 
preferences - I know this can be done easily through the admin.pl menu
     2.  product search, price check (for "sellprice"only! not for other 
prices or functions in the product screen)
     3.  and most important, ALL ABOVE ONLY for customername= "Joes 
Deli", not any of the other accounts.

Items 2 and 3 are the tough ones for me.Which scripts would I need to 
modify and how?

[SL] Cheque printing/numbering question

We are printing cheques that are pre-numbered with consecutive numbres by
the bank. When I print a single cheque I put the number provided by my
bank as payment source. Is there a way to generate this number
automatically as on invoice numbers?

But, as I mentioned this is not a resolution...it was simply an interesting
observation.  I think adding this into your bin/mozilla/custom_io.pl file
helps more:

$form->{countitemnotes} = 1;

Without the template modification, it counts the items better...Although I
have just noticed there are still some issues when there are *lots* of line
items, itemnotes, and notes...it can get kind of messy sometimes.  Hopefully
I will find a balance somewhere playing with some of the variables in the
template, etc...

Hi again,

I have just had a revelation.  From looking at the Form.pm file, I saw that
if I defined the countitemnotes variable in a custom script it may help me
out.  I added this to my custom_io.pl file:

$form->{countitemnotes} = 1;

Now my items print out correctly, at least as far as I have tested they seem

makes breaks based on them.  It does not include the %notes% variable in
it's calculation.

There is some sort of logic that includes the itemnotes variable, but it
does not appear to be working correctly, or it works in a way I cannot see
at the moment.

It is rendering the page incorrectly because it doesn't know to make a
pagebreak if there are lots of itemnotes to be printed.

I have successfully made the itemnotes print out by forcing the pagebreak
variable to the following statement:

<%pagebreak 90 7 37%>

This is dependent on the amount of line items in your invoice though, and
it's not a solution...it's just interesting that it worked for me.

Perhaps the pagebreak code can be modified to better handle lots of item
notes...I am not enough of a Perl programmer to tackle this, although I'd
love to use it! ;)

Look at instructions in /etc/mail/ for how to relay to another
host.

Set SENDMAIL_ENABLE="NO" in /etc/rc.conf.

Hello all I am very new to sql-ledger have installed it on a Freebsd Box.  My problem is with email this machine has a very broken version of postfix on it that seems to be spamming poeple.  Therefor i have turned it off and do not use the email server on this machine anymore.  

Is there a way to send email using a remote machine? As i have other email servers that work well.  They are TLS/SSL based servers and require username and password authentication is this possible with sql-ledger or would it be easier to try and fix my broken postfix?

What happens if you take out the close paren?

What happens if you do both of the above?

Get it rendering properly then add stuff back one piece at a
time.

There's a wierd close paren after runningnumber field.  Although
I don't think that should cause the whitespace problem.

Don't know why you would get whitespace.  You didn't include the
tabledef, but maybe it doesn't work properly when the field is
blank.  Test a table with other field values that you know are
blank to see how it get's laid out.  

So far, I've just stuck the item notes after the item description
right on the line item.  But I like your approach better b/c it
seems easier to wrap it in a different font.  For long notes,
it's nice to have smaller font and use more of the page width.

Re: page wrapping, you'll have to experiment.  I know Form.pm
does have logic that handles page breaks, so hopefully it will
just work.

Similar...when you add a line and update another line for data entry is
generated.  You can do this from the item screen or from the customer
pricelist screen.

Just to forewarn, you can print customer pricelists but at this time
there is no way (that I have found) to generate a list of items in a
particular pricegroup.  Keep that in mind before getting to far into
your project.  This makes maintenance a bit of a bear if you are wanting
to work on a multi-location customers pricing (a customer that has
several shipping locations handled by separate AR acounts).
