WIth regard to adjusting VAT rounding differences on AP invoices, we found this works well to adjust the tax: - set up a service "VATable rounding" which is taxable (price 0.01) - set up another service "NON VATable service" which is non taxable (price 0.01) You can then combine different quantities of these services, positive and negative, to adjust your tax without affecting the net total. For example, to increase tax, add a positive quantity of VATable rounding service and then add an equal negative quantity of NON VATable rounding - this leaves your net total unchanged but increases the amount of tax. We have been using this for a few years now and whilst we end up with two extra lines on the occasional AP invoice, we find it works really neatly and our ledger then balances to our suppliers without having to write amounts off or back etc. Does that sound useful? Not a bad idea Olle. That should help a few people. But, the problem is, that method adjusts the subtotal...not the TAX. I need a way to adjust the tax....not the subtotal. Cheers ! I know better way: I added new service, no price, no pcs, no VAT. Number RO and description Rounding Now I can adjust Invoice value as I need, when needed, I add line Rounding with price 0.01, when needed, I add line Rounding with price -0.05 etc. Then there is no need for double AP Transaction, what was very painfull for me to remember. I think this is the best way to do that. Quickbooks is pretty much a 'Hotel California' for transaction data. They go to great lengths to prevent you from getting transaction data. This of course helps the revenue stream because its easier to pay another $150 this year and upgrade than to do anything else. I have had a link in the past to a [non-free] package that can convert a QB database to Micro$oft Access and I used it once and was able to write a conversion for my specific needs. The problem was that on the next Quickbooks update, Intuit changed fhe format yet again, rendering the $100 converter useless. I just googled and this sounds like the program that I used: http://www.synergration.com/accessBooks/default.htm I seem to remember that the one I used had a free download that would show only the first 50 records in each table, so you could get an idea what your're getting into and if it will work with your data. Good luck, and as always -- "your mileage may vary", "Solutions are guaranteed to work unless they don't", etc. -- Dave Ratte Recreational Mobility On Sunday 29 October 2006 11:54, Danita Zanre wrote: > BTW - I see that these are all pretty much "static" info imports - like > customers, vendors, parts, etc. I'd be interested if anyone has every put > together an import tool for importing actual transactions I guess! |

I finished my quarterly reconciliations about an hour ago, so it's all very fresh :-) If you alter or delete any transaction that's been previously reconciled, the reconciliation will need to be done again (pretty reasonable really). As a matter of good practice, I always check the old reconciliation before starting a new period. If you delete or alter any transaction from AFTER the period that has been reconciled, there is no effect at all. I believe an accountant would tell you that deleting/changing transactions after reconciliation is a BAD_IDEA (tm). I do it all the time, but then I'm not an accountant so it's OK. You can use audit control to lock transactions (somebody correct me if I'm wrong?), but that's for people who do the job properly. |

They don't handle actual transactions. This could be done using Sql-ledger API. There has been a few posts on this list about developing script that will handle this. Maybe others on this list who already have scripts like this can give/sell them to you..... or can write some for you if needed. Of course having Dieter write them for you is an option too. Cheers |

Hi, When going through the reconcilliation there are times when this shows me that an error has occured. So sometime I have to delete a transaction. If this has not been reconciled can I presume that this will not have any effect. What happens if I accidentally delete a transaction which has been set as reconciled? Thanks, Kevin |

Eventually I searched the email folder to which I filter this list for "import" and found the link straight away, but I was unable to search your site via Google. For instance, <http:// www.google.com/search?q=+import+site%3Asql-ledger.org> returns nothing, and it seems that in all only 3 pages of SQL-Ledger are indexed by Google <http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Asql- ledger.org>. Is spiders.txt the problem? If this is something that could be easily resolved then it might be helpful. Stroller. |

i have data dumped from another ledger program (quickbooks) in csv files. it is typical stuff like product orders and customer/vendor info. is there any standard way to import these into sql-ledger? or are there any relate utility scripts or examples? i can hack the perl to suit my needs (parsing cvs, column name munging and such) or even do a full script if there is a schema and/or some dbi code i can use. any ideas are welcome. thanx, uri |

I seem to have just experienced the same thing, but using my logo in invoice.tex I had honestly disregarded Mr Van Ginneken's problem as "existing between keyboard & chair" however the problem seems to have inexplicably resolved itself for me, and I can only conclude that something glitchy may sometimes occur with the logo. I have spent some time this morning paying attention to the full format of the .png file - for instance note that: $ file /usr/local/sql-ledger/templates/Service-logo.png /usr/local/sql-ledger/templates/Service-logo.png: PNG image data, 220 x 138, 8-bit colormap, non-interlaced $ convert my_logo.eps foo.png $ file foo.png foo.png: PNG image data, 584 x 576, 16-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced $ convert my_logo.eps -depth 8 foo.png $ file foo.png foo.png: PNG image data, 584 x 576, 8-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced $ However in frustration I copied back the original logo and it STILL! didn't work!!?! After making trivial edits in my invoice.tex the logo reappeared, only to remain there when I reverted those very same edits!! When I copied back my_logo.png, suddenly it worked perfectly!! So I am completely unable to explain why the image didn't work in the first place. My permissions are the same as Ryan's, and I have changed them at no time. I can't believe I have made some stupid mistake - even though that's the only logical explanation! - because I used my bash history to go back to the same `cp working.png /usr/local/sql-ledger/templates/ stroller/logo.png` each time. Likewise, I used up-arrow in bash to edit the `convert` command (ImageMagick), then `file` & `identify` to check the file format. So my only suggestion to someone else experiencing this is to copy the original logo back and then try again from scratch. Maybe there's something in the email generation process that caches the logo? Stroller. |

Being completely new to .tex I had failed to see the significance of this - I do so now!! I should have read more carefully. I'll be trying this now. Stroller. |

Hi Duncan, Thanks very much for your reply. I am quite stuck on this!! On 23 Oct 2006, at 18:02, C. Having examined your header, I added: \usepackage{rotating} However that has made no difference. > That should give you an idea of what you need to do, but an even > easier > way of dealing with this is to just create a CUPS queue that only > prints > landscape. Could you explain how to do this, please? I have this in /usr/local/sql-ledger/sql-ledger.conf: # available printers %printer = ( 'HP Laserjet 4 - landscape' => 'lpr -o landscape -P HPLaserJet5M', 'HP Laserjet 4' => 'lpr -P HPLaserJet5M', 'Canon IP3000 on funf' => 'lpr -P iP3000', ); But this does not work for my ps or pdf invoices. After some experimentation it transpires that `lpr -o landscape` works great with plain text, but not with postscript documents - all that seems to happen is that a sheet of A4 is printed in portrait format, with the image halfway down the sheet and falling half off the page. It seems that I have the problem mentioned here: <http:// marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=redhat-list&m=103340134024139&w=2>. The CUPS manual says that "-o landscape option will rotate the page 90 degrees to print in landscape orientation" <http://www.cups.org/doc-1.1/ sum.html#4_1_2> but it does not mention that this does not work with postscript documents. The only things I can think right now are to: 1) do an entire .tex layout in portrait with all the text at 90- degrees. I have no idea id this is possible? 2) have a virtual printer (I think this could be done with Bash & some pipes?) that rotates a postscript or pdf document through 90 degrees before printing it. Any other ideas? TIA for any help, Stroller. |

We don't print invoices landscape, but we do print labels that way. Here's what one of our landscape tex files looks like: \documentclass[oneside]{scrartcl} \documentstyle[rotate]{article} \usepackage[latin1]{inputenc} \usepackage[english]{babel} \usepackage{rotating} \usepackage{array} \usepackage{pstricks,tabularx} \usepackage{pst-barcode} \usepackage[absolute, overlay]{textpos} \usepackage[paperwidth=4in,paperheight=2.25in,margin=0.125]{geometry} \usepackage{graphicx} \usepackage{hyperref} \setlength\parindent{0pt} \setlength\arrayrulewidth{0.1mm} \begin{document} \fontfamily{phv}\fontsize{18pt}{18pt}\selectfont \pagestyle{myheadings} \begin{sideways} \begin{minipage}{2in} \vspace{1in} \begin{hyphenrules}{nohyphenation} \begin{center} \textbf{<%notes%>} \vspace{.5in} \fontfamily{phv}\fontsize{8pt}{8pt}\selectfont {\Tiny <%invnumber%>} \end{center}\end{hyphenrules} \end{center}\end{hyphenrules} \end{minipage} \end{sideways} \end{document} That should give you an idea of what you need to do, but an even easier way of dealing with this is to just create a CUPS queue that only prints landscape.
