The only problem I had was importing the Sql Ledger backup file into Postgres as the sql-ledger user. Also, the install docs don't exactly match how PostgreSql works. For example, when creating a new user the prompts are different. It's close, but not exact. I just used the command-line args then said "no" when Postgres asked me if the sql-ledger user should be a superuser. Those were my only two issues. You can search the recent archives for the details. m |

Hi Ryan Unfortunately, IAAA and understand BAS and GST. Do you ever receive money from customers that you record in SL without allocating the amount to a customer invoice ? We've spent some quality time just today looking at this issue, and would be a coincidence if thats whats causing your bother also. Cheers - David J (also from Sydney) BTW, we don't see this as an SL problem or insect. The exact same issues emerge with a manual accounting system. The solution is to understand the accounting implications of your entries. > Hi Everyone > > I am having a problem when using SQL Ledger for preparing > my quarterly GST return (BAS). Hi Everyone I am having a problem when using SQL Ledger for preparing my quarterly GST return (BAS). When I take the income statement for the period (on a cash basis) and compare the sales figures from this to the 'tax collected report' (also on a cash basis) the amount of sales are slightly larger (about 5%) in the income statement. I don't understand where this discrepancy is coming from as we have no GST-free sales. The only explanation I can think of is if we have unintentionally left GST collected off one of our services, but I went through them and was unable to find any that didn't have GST. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing different figures in these two reports? Cheers, Ryan -- |

Stroller Your import script will prolly need to update ALL the relevant SL tables, including balanced DR and CR entries for the GL table, else you'll throw the whole system into OOB. For your 100 or so entries, I suspect that you'll be better to enter them manually. Perhaps become familiar with the SL keyboard shortcuts (Alt-O) to post, etc, so that your data entry can be achieved smoothly and swiftly, rather than being mousebound. My $0.02 only (GST and VAT included). - David J (via webmail) [OOB =3d Out of balance] > Hi there, > > I have about 100 transactions in a spreadsheet. I'm trying to install SQL leger via FTP. I'm using FileZilla, Zipgenius, webshell4 and my ISPphpPgAdmin. I have a cgi-bin folder and the CGI dir function. I uploaded sql ledger files to my cgi-bin, I created an .htaccess file. I was able to set up a PostgreSQL database and run the admin.pl. I created the dataset and a sql ledger user and I succeed with that. But I cannot run the login.pl, I get the 500 Internal server error and I cannot carry on. What I can do to solve this problem? Should I use ASCII or binary transfer type for the .htaccess file? Should I CHMOD some files or folder? And which files and/ or folder? Do I need to set up .htpasswd file for both users and templates directories? Thanks in advance and I really appreciate your help. Thank you for your previous answer, I appreciated. I created a sql ledger user and I succeed with that. But I cannot run the login.pl, I get the 500 error and I cannot carry on. Hi there, I have about 100 transactions in a spreadsheet. I can export these to =20= CSV file with the fields in any order and the date in any format. EG: 26/10/05,=A320.90,Joe Smith or 32.06,2005-10,26,Willy Gates (where the amount of the transaction is =A332.06) These are costs of shipping of various items to customers - they =20 constitute only postage paid to the local logistics company. =20 Therefore I want to enter them into SL as AP transactions, all =20 against the same vendor number (54) and account (7500), all invoice =20 number "-". Is it possible easily to import these all into SL, please? In each case the amount & date of the transaction should be read from =20= the CSV file and the full amount marked as paid on the same day. =20 There should be only one item in each transaction, with a description =20= either of "Post & packing" or "Post & packing, $CUSTOMER" (where =20 $CUSTOMER is read from the CSV file). I don't think the Generic import script at [1] will do the job. I =20 have no doubt that I could learn enough Perl to perform the import, =20 but since I've never used perl before it'd surely take me more than =20 the two hours or so required for me to type these entries in =20 manually. I'm ok in Bash so could probably write a shell script if =20 someone could suggest a format for dumping in via `psql`. As this is a one-off and only 100 or so transactions this isn't =20 terribly important, but if someone has an import script laying around =20= which I could use to add transactions then you'd save me some time =20 wasted typing & I'd be grateful. Installing via ftp is quite easy but your ISP must play along. a) you must be able to configure your virtual server to run perl scripts from the directory where you set up SQL-Ledger b) plpgsql must be installed in template1 or at least your ISP must cooperate and install the language handler for your database Once you've got all this in place upload the compressed file an ungzip. If you cannot do that ungzip locally and upload the sql-ledger folder. Then create a .htaccess file in the sql-ledger folder and put this in the file DirectoryIndex login.pl Options +ExecCGI Use the program as you would on a private server. admin.pl works just the same. The only difference is that you supply the name of the database instead of letting the program create one for you. You are most likely not allowed to create new databases outside of pgadmin or whatever your ISP uses so you create a new database with pgadmin and enter the name of the database in the admin screen when you create a new dataset. -- Dieter Simader http://www.sql-ledger.com Tel: (408) 898-4421 DWS Systems Inc. Most hosted accounts have a directory where you can place scripts so they are automatically treated as executable cgi binaries. This is often called cgi-bin. You may be able to place all of the sql-ledger files in there, set up the database (only works with Postgresql). You may need to change all of the files to not point to http://website/sql-ledger but to http://website/cgi-bin . > > I'm trying with the FTP installation but without success. > > > > I'm getting this with admin.pl: > > > > 500 Internal Server Error > > The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was > unable to complete your request. > > Please contact the server administrator, xx...@xx... and inform them > of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that > may have caused the error. > > More information about this error may be available in the server error log. > > > > Apache/1.3.37 Server at xxx.com Port 80 > > > > My questions are: > > > > If it's possible for me to run SQL-ledger on surftown Linux advance package? > > What should I do more to be able to run a smooth installation? > > > > Linux Advance package: > > PHP4 > > Sun ASP > > MySQL 4 Databases > > phpMyAdmin > > PostgrSQL 7.3 Databases > > phpPgAdmin > > Egne CGI-scripts > > > > Thank you for your help > > > -- James P. Hi, I'm trying for more than 2 weeks to install Sql-ledger on my shared web server (www.surftown.com). As I don't have the access to the server's configuration files, I'm trying with the FTP installation but without success. I'm getting this with admin.pl: 500 Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, xx...@xx... and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Apache/1.3.37 Server at xxx.com Port 80 My questions are: If it's possible for me to run SQL-ledger on surftown Linux advance package? What should I do more to be able to run a smooth installation? Linux Advance package: PHP4 Sun ASP MySQL 4 Databases phpMyAdmin PostgrSQL 7.3 Databases phpPgAdmin Egne CGI-scripts Thank you for your help -- Fabien Adouani Sweden |

Tim Out of the box, SQL-L is designed for a "company" structure. You can get it to work perfectly well for other business types including partnerships, trusts, and solo proprietors. But you do need to carefully plan your chart of accounts. Same applies to an unincorporated association, which are commonly used by Not-For-Profit organisations. For some organisation types (especially partnerships and some trusts) you must enter you own end-of-year journal to allocate the retained earnings (or losses) manually. The usual SQL-L end of year routine can only accumulate profits/losses to a single account in the equity section of your Balance Sheet. As for your donors, you could easily track them as customers. Alternatively, you could track the donors as separate accounts within your chart of accounts. Depends upon your needs. In summary, Yes, SQL-L can be used very successfully with NFP's. Hope this helps. - David J > Is anyone using SQL-ledger for a non-profit? I am looking > for a Linux alternative to my Windowz accounting package. > I also need to track donors.
