> I think it > may have to do with boxes? I think it's due to using a fixed /vspace instead of flexible vglue. I think what you want to do (and this may take some playing around) is figure out how far *up* the page you want the bottom of your cheque, and put a \vfill between the top of the cheque, and the bottom of the summary, and then at the bottom put the \vspace that you want from the bottom of your cheque. Now I'm not sure that this gives the answer that you are looking for. It would depend on how you want to lay this all out. The way that you have it laid out you have the invoice information at the top, then the cheque below that, and it appears that it is just a little bit below it. So what you want to do if you want to maintain the same format is to make sure that {tabularx} is the same size, and I'm not familiar enough with LaTeX to know if that is a text box, or if it's just a lexical boundary. If it is a textbox then you should be able to define the hsize and vsize of the box. If it's simply lexical (has no direct effect on how things are laid out on the page), then you will have to find a way to put the cheque on the page where you want (and that's crutial). I would suggest trying to place the cheque either on the top of the printed page of "letterpaper". That may be easily said, but much more difficult to produce with the cheque paper that you are using. Jigme Datse |

We use 3 part checks, with the actual check in the middle. We're limited to 20 invoices / check, but other then that it works like a charm. Drop me a line off list if you'd like to take a look at what we did. Dunc |

Hi Everyone I modified my latex file to print cheques in the new format required starting this spring in Canada. Everything seems to work as long as I am only paying one invoice. If I pay two or three invoices the extra lines printed in the top third of the page push the information down in the cheque body. If I pay one invoice everything lines up, if i pay two then the cheque body is down a line, by the time i try to pay three cheques all at once the cheque information is totally out of place. I tried to find out how to correct this by reading my copy of "The not so short introduction to Latex" but couldn't figure it out. I think it may have to do with boxes? Here is my cheque code: /*\documentclass{scrartcl} \usepackage[latin1]{inputenc} \usepackage{tabularx} \usepackage[letterpaper,top=2cm,bottom=-3cm,left=2.25cm,right=2cm]{geometry} \usepackage{graphicx} \begin{document} \pagestyle{myheadings} \thispagestyle{empty} \fontfamily{cmss}\fontsize{12pt}{12pt}\selectfont <%company%> \vspace{0.5cm} <%name%> \hfill <%datepaid%> \hfill <%source%> \vspace{0.5cm} \begin{tabularx}{\textwidth}{lXrr@{}} \textbf{Invoice \#} & \textbf{Invoice Date} & \textbf{Amount Due} & \textbf{Applied} \\ <%foreach invnumber%> <%invnumber%> & <%invdate%> \dotfill & <%due%> & <%paid%> \\ <%end invnumber%> \end{tabularx} \vspace{1cm} \text{Memo: } \ <%memo%> \vspace*{3.5cm} \hfill <%source%> \vspace*{.75cm} \hfill <%datepaid%> \vspace*{1.75cm} <%text_amount%> \dotfill <%decimal%>/100 \makebox[4cm]{\hfill} % \hfill <%datepaid%> \makebox[2cm]{\hfill} <%amount%> \hfill <%amount%> \makebox[1cm]{\hfill} % different date format for datepaid % <%DD%><%MM%><%YYYY%> %\vspace{0.25cm} <%name%> <%address1%> <%address2%> <%city%> <%if state%> \hspace{-0.1cm}, <%state%> <%end state%> <%zipcode%> <%country%> \vspace{0.25cm} <%memo%> \vfill \end{document} */ Thanks in advance Jeff Roberts /* */ |

EL, This was very helpful for me, thank you for posting it. Hi everyone, Anybody using SL in a service business where incoming units to be repaired need to be tracked? Take a garage for example, lots of customers, some of which have multiple vehicles. When the vehicle comes in not only is the work tied to the customer and the usual parts/labor is invoiced but there also need to an association with the vehicle make/model/VIN etc so that the repair history can be reported on. We're not seeing any way to do that last bit in the SL interface. Short of creating a separate customer account for every single vehicle, (not really feasible if some have fleets of hundreds), is there some other angle on this that we're just missing? Thanks, Michael |

I've been using FreeBSD since 2.2.8 (and one prototype laptop that would only run 2.2.2) and I would also agree that it's a great choice for running SL. (Our install is running on 6.1->6.2) I would however add the there is no reason not to use the package's instead of building from ports. You'll save loads of time, and the packages are already optimized plus you'll make it easier on FreeBSD's bandwidth as there isn't as much to d/l(if something comes up down the road you can always change it later). And as already noted, use either package or the ports tree, not both. If you're really insistent on having a GUI check out www.pcbsd.org - FBSD + KDE I've beening using it to install desktop workstations, but the project has commercial backing and a server option during the install plus the pbi collection allows for clickable installers for common apps eg apache, open office, etc. Of course it comes with it's own standard quirks, but they're easy to overcome if you're familiar w/ FBSD. |

Well, we're nowhere near that size, but SL works for any company of 1+ employees. Set up your services and normal expenses as inventory items, create projects for each client/project, use the timecard capabilities, and go to town. SL will generate invoices for you, add them to A/R when posted, and handle the A/P and G/L functions, too. There's no payroll (as far as I know), and many companies contract that to a dedicated payroll firm or have their accountant handle it. Go set up SL and ask your questions here. As far as this capability is concerned, size does _not_ matter. Rich -- Richard B. My personal feeling is that a server should be just that ' a server '. GUI addons only serve to waste resources and add potential security holes. I also tend to sperate 'services' and dedicate a box for each one if possible for the same reasons. I've had SL running on BSD 5.x without a problem, however i used the official installer instead of what was in the ports tree. There was a bit of manual labor to get all the components setup but its pretty straight forward. And to answer you question about first/last/etc: if you do make install on a port, it installs it for you and you dont need to install the package afterwards. ( its sort of redundant ) its also best to stick with ports, and not packages if you can. Ports is the preferred way for any BSD application, packages are just there for convenience. Have you try looking into Postgres' point-in-time recovery? I believe Postgres by default turn on transaction logging so you may just want to look into this topic for sure. Typically, that's done by restoring the last full backup, and then start rolling forward the logs since the last full backup until the point just prior to the invoice was deleted. So just one invoice? Interesting...could you just recreate the invoice with the paperwork or info. that you may have? > Simple: > > Use the back browser button to get to the invoice then edit it to match > the original invoice (that was overwritten) "post as new" > > That way way the 'original' gets posted as a new invoice > > The one that was "posted" instead of "posted as new" gets left alone. > > Jeff > > > Dr Eberhard Lisse wrote: >> Doesn't SL do this with an transaction ID, so that you can have two >> invoices with the same invoice number if you want? Hi ATM Logic I agree with Vlad, I installed it on a FreeBSD box and the install couldn't have been simpler. There is a port for SQL-Ledger, (it was version 2.6.22 when i installed in Dec) and one command (make install) will fetch the whole of SQL, Apache and Postgres, install all of them and all dependancies and you are ready to run. It took about three or four hours for FreeBSD to fetch everything, compile it all and install it but I just watched TV and when I came back I edited one config file and it all ran perfectly. Like Vlad points out, you don't need X on the server so it can run on any old box. Jeff Vladimir Botka wrote: >> Normally I use SME/Mitel/E-smith for my SL installes, however I have >> a site that wants SL, already has a SME doing way to many other >> tasks.. what would the"list" recomend for simple Linux OS to install >> SL as a stand alone server?? >> >> Thanks, >> >> PS, sorry if this is a duplicate.. Simple: Use the back browser button to get to the invoice then edit it to match the original invoice (that was overwritten) "post as new" That way way the 'original' gets posted as a new invoice The one that was "posted" instead of "posted as new" gets left alone. Okay - I am having a difficult time translating something I used to do to = Quickbooks, so maybe someone can help me. I have some "vendors" who are = authors that I pay royalties to. We also make various expenditures on the = authors' behalf throughout the year. =20 So, I will have a vendor "invoice" or AP transaction (can't figure out = which would be better) for the royalties due for a quarter. Then I might = have an expenditure for that author for returns, or affiliate fees, or = association dues, etc. I could pay a payment to a different vendor, and = assign it to the amount due to the author. I can't see a way to do that. = For example, if I pay $10 to an affiliate, and want to decrease the amount = due to the author by that amount, I can't see how to do that. I.e., how = can I pay a second vendor, and assign part or all of the payment to the = "AP" account of another vendor. Danita |

Hi, i looked a bit in the documentation, and some minutes in the source. How can the printer media enforced, e.g. only create pdf, no html, no postscript. And or how could be PDF marked as default? thanks in advance.. -- Florian Reitmeir |

According to documentation from: http://cpan.uwinnipeg.ca/htdocs/DBD-Pg/README.html -----quote------ If you get an error message like: perl: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i386-linux/auto/DBD/Pg/Pg.so: undefined symbol: PQconnectdb when you call DBI->connect, then your libpq.so was probably not seen at build-time. This should have caused 'make test' to fail; did you really run it and look at the output? Check the setting of POSTGRES_LIB and recompile DBD-Pg. -----end quote------- Can somebody provide a hint how to ""Check the setting of POSTGRES_LIB" ? Joseph |
