Hi Jigme I do the same as David, if you set up your 'deduction' liability accounts (tax owing, employment insurance owing, pension owing etc) they will appear in the drop down menus of the AP module. You can put in the gross pay and assign it to an expense and then use negative numbers to 'deduct' from the gross and assign the 'deductions' to liability accounts. When I'm all done printing the cheques I do a GL entry to account for the matching expenses, I, for example, expense the amount I have to match on their pension contributions (Pension expense) and add it to a liability account called 'pension owing' (same account I used when cutting their cheque). This way both my contribution and their contribution end up in the same liability account. At the end of the month when it's time for remittance I pay from a bank account and decrease the liability account back to zero. None of this does anything for the calculations that have to be made to determine how much each employee has to pay each of the various deductions. I have a spreadsheet with the Canadian formulas in it to do that and it's printout is what I use to cut the cheques and do the GL entry. Maybe I'm just blind, but I can't seem to find a variable to replace the = "order" field in an invoice with "Purchase Order" - in our business, we = really never have a need to pass our internal "Sales Order" information to = the invoice, but we always need to pass the "purchase order" info. I've = just taken to putting the purchase order number in the "order" field, but = if there is a way to pass this info to the invoice I'd be happier. Thanks. Danita |

Hello, if you installed from CD then you can install the port collection much faster this way: 1. put your CD in 2. as a root type # sysinstal 3. go to CONFIGURE->DISTRIBUTIONS 4. check out the [x] ports 5. and press [OK] The port collection will be installed from your CD. Then you can find the SL in /usr/ports/finance directory. <gently flame=off> But in the long run with FreeBSD you can not avoid reading the handbook. It will pay you in time. I promisse. Thanks for taking the time for the help, however I have tried 2 flavors of FreeBSD, and as much as I would like it to work, I am getting little failures here here and there (pkg_add -r csup, fails, even when I get sql-ledger installed, I don't have pico to edit, so forced to use other apps, then I am a little confused... No Lynx, or links, not even mc... So... Going with CentOS, I know it well enough, and will try FreeBSD as a project, not a production unit. > > > > I reccomend using Portsnap instead of cvsup. > > http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/port > snap.html > > -------------------------------------------------------------- > ----------- > Take Surveys. I'm looking at my setup for SL and right now I'm not seeing any payroll module. That is while I see the HR module, and the Projects module, I don't see a way to print up cheques/cheque stubs for the hours that my employees have put in. Am I missing something obvious? I think I've gone through a few times to figure this out, and put the payroll through, but the only way that I can see this right now, is to manually enter the cheques, and stubs through the general ledger. Can someone explain to me how the "include payment" feature works w/in Scheduled Transactions? I've looked through the manual and searched online but I can't quite piece it together. I have a recurring monthly expense charged automatically to my Debit Card and I'd like to setup a Scheduled AP Transaction to record the expense (no problem w/this part). I'd also like to record the payment portion to the appropriate checking account and thought I could use "include payment" to do this but so far no luck. Maybe I am overcomplicating things, should the "checking account" be selectable on the AP screen as the "credit" account? Thanks! Craig |

You're looking for AJAX. Personally, I think it would be wonderful to have AJAX used in all of the search fields on the AR, AP, etc. screens. AJAX has been discussed several times on the list, but it always gets dismissed. Perhaps it's time has come. One way to do this is to go to AR->Customers->Reports->Search and do it through there, then once you have found the customer that you are looking for you can do a variety of transactions by clicking on the customer. If the customer that you are looking for is not in there, then you can put the customer in as a new customer. This is not the ideal situation, though I don't know what, if anything happens when you have a long list of customers. I currently have three customers listed on my customer list, and it simply presents an alphabetical pull down list. Which if you have more than about 10 customers seems like it would become cumbersome. Jigme Datse |
