Hello Robert, if you double-click a config in Spring Beans View Eclipse's default xml editor is opened. The behaviour that you examine is the default behaviour of Eclipse. Eclipse opens files depending of the file associations defined under perferences. As long as you don't have anything configured for *.xml files Eclipse or SpringIDE will bring up your Default XML Editor configured within WinXP. SpringIDE does not contain an XML Editor plugin so you need to install an XML editor plugin e.g. XML Buddy http://xmlbuddy.com/ and make sure that *.xml files are associated with the XML editor. Greetings Christian Quoting Robert Taylor <rob...@br...>: > Greetings, > > I'm using Eclipse 3.0.1 on WinXP Professional 2002 and have just > downloaded and installed SpringIDE. Greetings, I'm using Eclipse 3.0.1 on WinXP Professional 2002 and have just downloaded and installed SpringIDE. When I double click on a config file in the Spring Beans view, it opens the file in a browser window. I assume it should open in Eclipse. Any ideas on what's wrong. I have a feeling it's a file association issue. /robert |

All, Christian did a great job setting up a website for Spring IDE (http://springide.org/). Thank you. Now we should start adding stuff to the wiki. The wiki pages are editable be everyone. Maybe someone can jump in :-) Btw. any entries for the Spring IDE logo contest (by now we are running the site with the Spring logo)? Cheers, Torsten |

Some suggestions for Spring IDE's Trac config ( http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/about/config ): project / icon = the one from http://www.springframework.org//images/spring.ico header_logo / src = something like the one from http://www.springframework.org/img/header.gif ticket / default_version = 1.1.0 ticket / default_component = beans.core What do you think? All, is someone of you gifted with graphical talent and is willing to create a logo for Spring IDE (maybe based on the Spring header logo from http://www.springframework.org/img/header.gif or one of the Spring buttons http://www.springframework.org/buttons.html )? Cheers, Torsten |

All, according to the updated Spring IDE roadmap ( http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/roadmap ) a maintenance release for (not yet officially released v1.1.0 ;-) is available for internal testing. You can find it on the non-public updatesite: http://springide-eclip.sf.net/updatesite2/ For the resolved tickets take a look here http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/query? status=closed&milestone=Release+1.1.1 The source code is available here for browser: http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/browser/branches/eclipse2- version for SVN client: https://svn.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/branches/eclipse2-version/ Maybe you can give it a try. If you find any issues then please create a ticket against version 1.1.1 and the corresponding component here http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/newticket Christian, would you please create a new version (1.1.1) for the Trac ticketing system? Does it make sense to import the old Spring IDE project from http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/springframework/spring-ide/ (<= v1.0.3) into the new SVN repository too? This would give us the full history of the Spring IDE project. Christian, is it feasible to uses cvs2svn to import different CVS projects into one SVN repository? Btw. is it possible to update Trac (e.g. lifeline) after filtering and reloading the SVN respoitory? Cheers, Torsten |

Cool. Hopefully you are more careful while creating new projects / modules in SVN than I this morning ;-) Removing a revision (un-doing a commited changeset) in SVN is no fun. You have to export the whole repository via svndumpfilter and reload it to get rid of unwanted commits :-( Christian, you should create a script for this kind of "undoing". It's supposed to be re-used very often ;-) Cheers, Torsten On 02.04.2005, at 09:48, Christian Dupuis wrote: > Torsten, > > I updated the trac ticket components just now. Trac is really cool too. I've created and closed / fixed my first ticket: http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/ticket/1 These tickets are reflected in Trac's liveline http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/timeline and in the project's roadmap http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/roadmap Tickets can be used in commit log messages via #<ticket number>. These commit log messages can be viewed in changesets, e.g. via Trac's timeline http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/changeset/232 Changesets (revision number) can be used in tickets via [<revision number>], e.g. refer to section "Changelog" in the following ticket http://trac.christiandupuis.de/spring-ide/ticket/1 Very interesting tool. We should considering to create a ticket first BEFORE commiting any changes to SVN. In the commit log message we should list the corresponding ticket(s). This way we get the roadmap filled with tickets which are providing a release's changelog. What do you think? Cheers, Torsten |

Christian, thank you for volunteering with the SVN / Trac stuff :-) Regarding 1.: - You could create an entry for David and Loren (Loren are you still listening ;-). For the wanted passwords they should sent you a private mail. - With the repository layout I'm fine. Are you able to import the branches and tags from CVS too? Regarding 2.: - For a roadmap I have currently no clue. Any suggestions? Otherwise skip it and we will add it later. - With the other points I'm fine too. Some additional info for clarification:
Search type 3 was a comment sent by someone who tried to sell Spring to
his co-workers.
He wrote "... First, they wanted some way to make sure that all
properties were mapped, so I thought it would be interesting to display
which properties have values and which do not. ...".
Maybe we can offer a context menu action for a selected bean in the
beans view which displays a view with all available properties of the
bean classes together with their wiring state (value assigned or no
value assigned).
Search type creates a kind of tree from wired beans. This search is
already done for the beans graph editor. For a given config, config set
or bean a list of all included beans is created. Then every bean from
this listed is checked which other beans are referenced via properties
or constructor arguments (including inner beans) and these referenced
beans are to this list too.
Acess point c) is already used for the "Open Java Type" and "Show In
Spring Beans View" text editor context menu actions. It's implemented
as a "viewerContribution" via the extension point
"org.eclipse.ui.popupMenus" , e.g.
<extension
point="org.eclipse.ui.popupMenus">
<viewerContribution
targetID="#TextEditorContext"
id="org.springframework.ide.eclipse.beans.ui.actions.beansConfigFile">
<action
label="%popupMenus.showInView.label"
icon="icons/full/etool16/show_in_view.gif"
definitionId="org.springframework.ide.eclipse.beans.ui.commands.showinvi
ew"
class="org.springframework.ide.eclipse.beans.ui.actions.ShowInView"
menubarPath="additions"
id="org.springframework.ide.eclipse.beans.ui.actions.showinview">
</action>
</viewerContribution>
</extension>
The interesting part is the editor's context ID in the attribute
"targetID".
The action uses the editor's current selection / cursor position to
guess it's target.
Cheers,
Torsten

Hiya, I can see the value of 4 (if I understood=20 the idea correctly) however I'm not sure=20 that 3 is paraticularly useful; I quite=20 often have a bunch of default values and/or=20 properties for hooking mock objects into=20 my beans. I wouldn't want to see those=20 coming up as unassigned properties as I=20 very rarely assign them. Perhaps better=20 would be a context option on a bean in the=20 view to display available properties=20 (and perhaps have something like the=20 Source..Override/Implement Methods option=20 in the JDT Editor which can insert some=20 template <property/> markup for you). =20 However I think this should be on a per bean=20 basis, not across multiple beans.=20 Going back to 4, I take it you mean being=20 able to ask Spring IDE something like: Show me all the beans which get wired=20 into this argument of this class (or=20 it's subtypes)? Incidently, looking at your access point=20 list (c), some time ago I looked at how to=20 contribute to an 'unspecified' editor and=20 couldn't see an easy way of doing it. Given=20 that Spring IDE is 'editor neutral' this may=20 be tricky to implement. However it may well=20 be the case that I've just missed the relevant=20 extension point! Cheers, dw P.S. are there any plans to look at adding the ability to follow import tags? If not, I'll take a=20 look at it when the fresh code arrives. =20 > -----Original Message----- > From: spr...@li...=20 > [mailto:spr...@li...] > On Behalf Of Torsten Juergeleit > Sent: 31 March 2005 16:00 > To: Spring IDE Developer List > Subject: [Springide-eclip-developer] Brainstorming for bean=20 > search functions >=20 > All, >=20 > I'm thinking about adding a new plugin to Spring IDE's bean=20 > factory plugins which brings support for searching the bean=20 > model. Hello Torsten,
I plan to set up the subversion repository as well as the trac enviroment
tonight. For the initial setup I need some information.
1. Subversion
- I need the names and the credentials of all cvs/svn commiters to setup.
- Repository layout
The initial layout will look like
<repos_root>
-- branches
-- tags
-- Initial migration from sourceforge cvs
-- trunk
-- plugin A
-- plugin B
-- plugin C
2. Trac
- Should I put in a Roadmap with planned features, timelines and milestones
If yes just briefly let me know what to put there
- For the ticketing I will create components for each plugin.
- As start page for the wiki I'll put the contents of
http://springide-eclip.sourceforge.net/
Is that ok for everybody?
Greetings Christian

All, I'm thinking about adding a new plugin to Spring IDE's bean factory plugins which brings support for searching the bean model. Dave already created a nice extension to Spring IDE whith this kind of functionality (http://springui-ext.sourceforge.net/search.html ). This is a great starting point. Now I'm just wondering which kind of search capabilities you are interested in? The following is my take: 1. list of beans with a given name (already implemented by Dave) 2. list of beans with a given bean class (already implemented by Dave) 3. list of beans with unassigned properties (no property + corresponding value defined for a bean class' public setter) http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/spring/browse/IDE-37 4. list of beans referenced by a given model element (bean, property or constructor argument) And what are the access points for these search capabilities? Here is my best guess: a) additional pane in Eclipse list of different search panes (Dave already implemented a combined pane for 1. and 2.) b) context menu for model elements selected in beans view (could be a good fit for 3. and 4.) c) context menu for current cursor position in text editor What do you think? Cheers, Torsten |

Derek, I'm not sure if the stuff commited this morning is ready for prime time ;-) It needs more testing. And it requires Eclipse 3!!! It's planned to release this stuff as v1.2 with spring-core.jar from Spring 1.2 and a few new features, e.g. Dave's bean search facility. Meanwhile I would be glad to have a v1.1.1 out because there are many issues open with (the yet to be officially released :-) v1.1.0 (it's nearly 7 month old and comes with Spring 1.1.1). Maybe we should create a maintenance release which comes with Spring 1.1.5 and a better bean config validator. No Eclipse 3 migration and internal refactoring... I will have a look. Maybe a branch started from the CVS tag "release-1-1-0" and some merging with stuff from CVS head will help. I'm not sure if it's so easy :-) Cheers, Torsten On 31.03.2005, at 15:55, Derek Adams wrote: > Torsten, > > Are you planning to release a 1.1.1 version with the new changes in > CVS? Torsten, Are you planning to release a 1.1.1 version with the new changes in CVS? I was going to release a new version of Gaijin Studio in the next few days and would love to include the Spring IDE updates as part of the release. BTW, the upcoming version of Gaijin has been redesigned to generate Spring Web Flow code (java based builder approach) from the flow editor. I am still putting the finishing touches on it, but it should be pretty cool when it's done. Thanks, Derek dadams (at) gaijin-studio.org --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Christian, you can go for it ;-) Right now I successfully commited all of the =20 refactored stuff. The bean config validator is totally redesigned. It uses an extended =20 version of Spring's AbstractBeanFactory which additionally implements =20= the BeanDefintitionRegistry interface. By using this we are able to put =20= some information (mainly the bean's internal BeanDefinitionHolder) =20 Spring IDE's core model into this BeanDefinitionRegistry and let Spring =20= resolve all the constructor argument value, bean inheritance (parent =20 beans) and property value magic (bean references). During refactoring I fixed a few glitches, e.g. - inner classes are supported as beans classes now (label decoration, =20= bean class name map, ...) - added support for migrating from Spring beans projects (v1.0.x and =20 v1.1.0) to new generic Spring project (>=3D v1.2) Haris, now you can get the CVS head and give it a try ;-) Cheers, Torsten On 30.03.2005, at 18:44, Christian Dupuis wrote: > Hi David, > > I will finilly migrate the sourceforge CVS to the subversion = repository > as soon as Torsten has finished his refactoring.
