Hi all,

for a recent project I had the requirement to generate reports in PDF and RTF format. The RTF format is just recently supported by JasperReports. Unfortunately Spring MVC doesn't support JasperReports' RTF export capabilities yet. But it was easy to do for me (thanks to Spring MVC's excellent extensibility). I based my Code on JasperReportsPdfView and tested it with JasperReports 1.0.3 and 1.1.1 (better RTF quality) and Spring 1.2.6 and it worked nicely. Maybe you would like to include it in Spring (see Attachment)? I am quite sure that some users would appreciate it.

Sadly, the RTF format that JasperReports produces seems to be currently only compatible with MS Word (Viewer). But there are definitely requirements where having at least something viewable and editable in MS Office is a welcome addition. Also images sometimes appear a bit blurry.

FYI, I just fixed the annoying "adviceDidNotMatch" warnings that are  
coming out from the compilation of our aspect library. These are  
issued because when we compile the aspect library in isolation, the  
advice in the aspects doesn't match anything (test cases are compiled  
separately). Sorry if that's stating the obvious!

AspectJ has an annotation, @SuppressAjWarnings, (akin to Java's  
@SuppressWarnings) that can be used to suppress AspectJ Xlint  
messages. So I've annotated the offending advice declarations with  
@SuppressAjWarnings("adviceDidNotMatch") - which I think on-balance  
is what we want in this case.

I haven't really thought about that in any detail. I'm reticent to have 
to maintain two sets of tags but if there is a pressing need for the 
customization offered by the 2.0 tags then I'll finish them up, include 
them and maintain them. I tried to make the 1.2 tags so there would be 
very little need for customization - they are essentially atomic units 
of rendering with every possible changeable value (that I can think of) 
exposed as an attribute.

What is the plan with the JSP 2.0 specific tags that were originally 
attached to the Jira issue for JSP tags? In a 2.0 environment the 2.0 
specific versions are still nicer I think due to easier customization...
