Thomas, everybody,

Can you please have a look at the following issue? I'd like to clarify this
for 1.2.4...

If we change this to a setNull call, which seems plausible to me, we should
at least test it against Oracle as well. I guess that most databases would
happily accept the setNull call as well, though.

For me it's a pretty consistent problem. I have tried from my hotel and the=

repeatable speed issues accesing springframework.org. On investigation, 
it was his personal firewall which was blocking the javascript download 
for the rich wysiwyg editor used by the site.

We have had on very irregular occasions had problems due to web crawlers 
and the like, where some sort of robot proceeds to connect with 100-150 
separate connections at the same time (either because the robot is 
defective or more likely while trying to suck down all the content), and 
consequently makes the site unusable for most other users. Resolving 
this kind of thing is a matter of installing some sort of throttling 
capability in Apache or at the routing level, so that one source can't 
monopolize the site.

does anyone know of any tricks to get SF to actually fix an issue with
their site? About 3 weeks ago my work gateway and apparently everything
on the same 16bit subnet was blocked by the SF firewall and I'm still
waiting for them to remove the block.

I was just thinking: We could give that pattern a name:
"verify-integration-tests-against-snapshot", as it's really about
downloading the latest nightly Spring snapshot, dropping it into your
project libs, and running your project's integration test suite. If
everything still passes, the Spring snapshot gets a thumbs-up :-)

I have implemented a JMS Invoker that can be used for Spring remote
invocations.  As I prepared to submit it to the Spring developers for
consideration to have it integrated with the framework, I notice that
there is already an implementation in the sandbox!  I guess I should
have looked there first before writing my own.

Anyway, I am submitting my implementation as is
(http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/spring/browse/SPR-1231) in
the hope that we can compare the two implementations to see if perhaps
we can take the best ideas from both in order to include this in the
core distribution someday.  (Or perhaps just discard mine altogether
if it is vastly inferior :)

The high level difference between the two is that my implementation
tends to do things more manually (such as using JmsTemplate and
Destination directly) whereas the sandbox implementation uses
QueueRequestor.  Both implementations use the great remoting
abstraction that is provided by Spring.

One major difference between the two is the type of Message that is
sent.  At first I tried to use ObjectMessage like the sandbox
implementation.  However, when I tried to invoke a method that uses
long as a parameter, I get:

So it looks like Tibco has issues with serialization and primitives.=20
Therefore, I decided to use BytesMessage and serialize the objects to
a byte array myself.  If we decide to go this route, perhaps we can
provide hooks for end users to perform custom serialization (to
provide compression and encryption for instance).

Another feature that I added is the ability to process a message
before it is sent by the client invoker and again before it is
processed by the server invoker.  This provides the ability to add JMS
header data to pass authentication information (which can then be
populated in an Acegi thread local) and any other metadata required.

I noticed that the sandbox implementation uses temporary queues to
reply to clients.  Does this have any effect on performance?  In my
implementation, request and response queues are required, but I am
open to using temporary queues if the performance hit is negligible.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a total noob at JMS so please
let me know if I'm doing anything crazy.  Based on your feedback, I
would be happy to merge the changes with the sandbox implementation
(if any are suggested) and submit a patch.

Yes yes, it's central to how SWF works.
Basically you'll be having seperate flow executions in each window. Each =
flow execution maintains a flow scope for the flows it runs, the flow =
scope is scoped 'at the flow level', so everything in there remains for =
the lifetime of the flow, giving you something similar to a 'session per =
window'.
There is no explicit support at the moment for 'inter flow execution =
communication', e.g. to have the different flows in the different =
windows interact, but it's certainly not impossible.

There are features in SWF that allow it to handle situations where you =
have multiple windows navigating through the same flow, e.g. to compare =
alternative navigation paths.
However, I don't think this is what you're looking for. One thing you =
could do to manage multiple independent browser windows is to have a =
flow per window. In that case you would also have a flow scope per =
window, wich is similar to having a session per window.

Actually, this looks like a plausible extension to our core HTTP invoker.
I'll consider this for Spring 1.3: So I guess it's best to leave it in our
JIRA for the time being, rather than putting it into Spring Modules.

My hope, if the Spring devs smile upon this contribution, is that this might 
make it into Spring itself, since it is just an optional extension to the 
standard HttpInvoker that is already bundled with Spring.  I'm guessing that 
if I put it in springmodules sandbox it would then remain in springmodules?  
Of course, one could always download the source and unit tests from the JIRA 
issue if they just wanted to play around with it. ;)

As a side note, we needed this in order to support managing large documents 
from our client.  We wanted a very simple solution (from the developer's 
perspective), and to us, that meant just adding another method to our already 
existing service interface that took an InputStream as parameter, and another 
that returned an InputStream (for downloading).  We need the streaming 
support as these documents will typically be larger than available RAM.
