Well, itsn't this a funny thing. I spent last night working on some ideas for a Java port of SPMS4, I for one would be interested in using a java version of SPMS. Then again, for reasons not entirely public yet I'm rather interested in learning more java stuff (Damn you Ed ;)). I came to a decision myself after a few hours of Java work. Screw it I'm more a PHP Developer than a Java Developer. So it looks like things should mesh together quite well. Its funny you should mention your original intentions for SPMS Ed, because thats exactly why I started on the Version 3 release of SPMS. I wanted it for my own site. It was never meant for public release, it only got put out because people asked. Version 4 will be different, everything I've got floating around my head is because of user feedback. SPMS is heading towards a full content management system, something that absolute newbies can use for thier site without knowing a jot of HTML. At the same time users like Ed, Darian or myself want to be able to use it as a simple template system, or extend it beyond what it was before. Before I get much further in to the design for Version 4 I just need to make sure everyone is aware of the direction it is moving in and to make sure everyone is happy with that. Whether or not the full CMS goes ahead as SPMS 4, I'll end up developing myself. Purely because I want to test my own skills in places, and because I want the challenge. Two other things that crossed my mind last week while I was away at uni, a standard document format for SPMS. Is everyone happy with SPMS' development documentation being created and released in rich text format (or possibly open office format?), I've already sent some stuff to two people who don't use MS Word, so they couldn't open word docs. Secondly, we need some sort of coding guidelines document, so everyone on the team submits code to a specified standard. I've got a draft of one thats been sitting on my HD for many moons, I just wondered if anyone else (Namely you Ed ;)) had one pre-written, or a prefered format to use. ~Dan Fleet Admiral Sorac Dunar wrote: >Well as you both know for reasons that are not yet public I plan to have >a lot more time to simm coming up and I've already reactivated my crew >and I'm up to 10 players now finally. > >With all that said I decided it was time to finish the consty website. >It's still running on my own highly customized version of SPMS 1.x.
