Hey folks, I've spent a few days making updates to the 3.X series of SPMS, it crossed my mind what are we going to do about supporting SPMS 3 while SPMS 4 development is under way? Personnaly I'm inclined to keep as much support for SPMS 3 as possible, fix any bugs that appear and tighten up the security on it. There are also a few items of functionality I want to add in, namely the admin pages for the missions page, the quotes database and also an install script. I've been asked already if we'll be porting SPMS 4 ideas in to SPMS 3 from time to time, this isn't something I feel inclined to do. The whole reason for making version for an new program from the ground up is to remove some of the legacy issues that are present in SPMS3 (ie: The manifest, the lack of themes). One of the bigger mistakes I've seen other groups make is removing all support for their current software while developing the next version, this occurred with SMS 1 .2 and with the TRMS software (Nolans copy of SPMS 2). I just wanted to get some feed back from you guys on what you think we should do? ~Dan |
