I've got version 0.3.6.4 running here: http://www.bigevilbrain.com/devblog/ (The username and password are both "dev".) Give it a whirl... -- Alex |

Hi Everyone, I just posted a new development version. This one is called sphpblog-0.3.6.4-dev. You can find it here: http://www.bigevilbrain.com/sphpblogdev/ Notes: Currently, only the English and Spanish translations are up to date. I still need to copy the new strings into all the translation files. (New string lines are labeled "// <-- New 0.3.7" in the English version...) This is really close to the final version.... It seems to be taking longer and longer to get these releases out. :( Please test if you have time. Let me know if you find any bugs. Features: 1) RSS is working 100%. 2) GZip compression for .txt files is done: To enable, click the "Enable GZIP Compression for Database Files" checkbox. To convert all old entries to GZIP, visit the recompress.php page. To convert back, un-check the same box and visit the recompress.php page again. (I need to add a link to this somewhere...) 3) Weblog "Pinging" should work: I have no way to test this... To enable, click the "Send weblog "pings"" checkbox and enter the URLs in the text field below. If someone could verify that this is working, that would be great. :) 4) Email notification is working 100%: I think that this should work everywhere. 5) GZIP Compression for HTTP Output is working 100%: I tested this. It looks like it saves bandwidth by about 40% (awesome!) -- Alex |

Hi All, I just posted a developmental version. At the moment, only the English and Spanish translations are working (there are some new strings that I haven't copied to all the translation files...) Here's the link: http://www.bigevilbrain.com/sphpblogdev/ All the ".txt.gz" stuff is working. Comments and entries are stored as gzip if the checkbox (on the setup page) is checked. Here are the results of a compression experiment on roughly 50 entries... 212KB - 46,653 bytes <-- Uncompressed 204KB - 26,362 bytes <-- Compressed They are smaller, but they take up about the same disk space due to block size... Results will vary due to many different factors. The http output compression isn't work yet... I didn't have time to put it in tonight. There is a checkbox for it on the setup page. The variable that it saves to is $blog_config[ 'blog_enable_gzip_output' ]. (It doesn't look like it will take too long to get it working...) There is a "recompress.php" page that will re-compress all the entry files (but not the comment files, yet...) If you have "Enable Database Compression" checked, visiting the recompress.php page will convert all the entries to gzip. If you un-check the box, and visit the page again, it will convert them to back .txt... Cheers! -- Alex |

Hi All, I've been pretty lazy about posting to these lists in the past. Well, starting today, I'm going to change that. :) The first thing to do is figure out the best way to work together so we can all collaborate. Where should development files be posted? Should we start a road-map? Assign tasks? Any suggestions? (I tried to get CVS working yesterday, but I have no experience with it. I'm sure I can get it working given so more time, if that's what everyone wants to do...) VERSION 0.3.7 DEVELOPMENT - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Guti and I have been working together on what will become 0.3.7. So far, we've got RSS working and it looks good (passes RSS validators 100%.) We're also working on enabling GZip compression for the data files. And also enabling compression on pages that are served up. This should save disk space and also bandwidth. And, I'm going to add Categories... For this release, you will be able to assign categories to you posts. However, this is mostly for the RSS feeds. (There won't be any, "sort by category" functionality just yet...) 1) RSS support a) rss.php (done) b) pings (working, but need to add list of servers to ping in "setup.php") 2) Compression a) compression of .txt files (working) b) Re-write functions to handle .txt and .txt.gz c) compression of http output browser (working) d) Add checkbox for "database" compression to "setup.php" e) Add checkbox for "browser output" compression to "setup.php" 3) Categories a) Add dropdown list to "add.php", "preview_cgi.php", etc... b) Manage categories functionality in "setup.php" ??? (or new page?) |
