[SoX-users] Poor sound quality converting WAV 48k to 8k

Hi -
   
  I'm using Sox 12.7.5 for Linux and conversion of a 48khz 16bit Stereo WAV to 8kb single channel doesn't sound that great, eperiencing lots of hiss and dialogue is very "lissspy". Just wondering if there are any tips to achieving better sound quality?
   
  Here's the command I'm using:
   
  sox -V ${file}.wav -r 8000 -c 1 ${file}_temp.wav resample -ql
   
  Any thoughts?
