I just started using this effect last week and was trying to find an automated way to detect distortion with it (like the clipping count in other effects), but could not find one. As far as I know, you must rely on your playback system and ears to detect this. The "stats" effect won't help. The level of contrast you can safely introduce is heavily dependent on your the recording. In other words, some quieter, distant recordings can use "contrast 100" safely while a louder recording cannot even use "contrast 0" (the most conservative level for the contrast effect). For compand, try -G as Marco suggested. |
