I tried that too. and i tried this morning to go with oggenc but it 
has the same issue. I guess its SoX which abborts somehow but haven't 
found any errors on the command prompt which actually should show 
something.
or can it be that it doesn't show things like that?

Lame was 3.98.4 from www.debian-multimedia.org.
The oggenc was 1.4 from the standard debian repository.
