No reports yet of playing audio not working.

Can you get the output of "play -V4 myfile.wav" and
"play -V4 -t sndfile myfile.wav".

Based on this little bit of information, I'd assume the
issue is in reading the WAV file and not so much related
to playing the audio.

Maybe its a 24-bit audio file?
