Ok, so before I describe the problem, let me remind you how the script works - first I take the lector track and generate a randomized lector track with speed, rabbit, allpass and pad applied. Then I generate another one and concatenate them. This is repeated until the combined lector track is long enough, at which point it is mixed together with the song track using a compander effect and -v 0.5 on the lector and -v 0.4 on the song. Now the problem: I reduced the compander gain parameter from -8 to -10 - that took care of the clipping from that effect. But there's still clipping from rabbit and allpass. I tried decreasing the volume using the vol effect to sort this out, but it didn't help at all and the volume did decrease. So I used -v instead of vol. I had to go down all the way to -v 0.5 to get rid of the clipping altogether. BUT that made the combined lector track too quiet. So I tried -v 0.5 for the combined lector track and -v 0.3 for the song in the last mixing step, but I think the end result is not good enough.. The lector isn't *very* quiet, but considering the types of music we're going to be dealing with - I think this is not the way to go. So here's my question: Should I *care* about the clipping in the lector tracks ? I'm no audiophile, but it seems to me, like the clipping doesn't produce significant effects, but maybe I'm just tone-deaf or something ;] Rabbit clips around 1700 samples each time, allpass around 3000 and concatenation around 1500 - that's for a 10 sec lector track each. If you guys think it's a blasphemy to just ignore it ;] then how should I go about reducing it, without loosing too much volume ? I'll post the script to this list as soon as I get an answer and apply a solution. In the meantime I'll add some comments.. cheers, Wojtek |
