The state of the window is saved when Smb4K is closed. On restart, the window should be restored in the saved state. Could you please check what happens when you just close and restart Smb4K (without logoff or reboot)?

Minimizing Smb4K to the task manager, closing it from there, and then restarting Smb4K causes it to open in the system tray (without logoff or reboot).
But after restarting the computer, Smb4K just starts up again in full screen mode.

I'm experiencing the same. No matter the state when I exited, it always comes up with the window visible. i.e. if I minimize to tray, quit, then re-launch - it pops up the window. If it's minimized to the tray, then I reboot (with it added to autostart), the window pops up on reboot. I can't find any way to launch it without having it show a window.
Kubuntu 20.04, smb4k 3.0.4

The issue doesn't seem to be fixed. It still always comes up with a visible window, even when it was minimized before reboot or before quitting from the tray icon.

The fix I commited to the git repository a few days ago has not been released yet. I did not have the time. Maybe I can do it tomorrow. This will be version 3.0.6 then.

Interesting. Then I gues a 3rd correction would be to say the issue was intermittent after all, since the last couple boots in 3.0.5 it actually didn't happen. Maybe explains why some users were originally seeing it but you weren't. In any case, glad to hear that won't be the case moving forward :)

When the OS starts, how can I get Smb4k to start up minimized in the system tray?
Currently when the OS starts, Smb4k starts in full window mode. And I have to manually minimize it.
When closing the OS, Smb4k is minimized in the system tray.

That is strange, because it seems that the state is not saved...
To be able to investigate this further, can you please tell me which operating system and distributions you are using?
Here is the info:
Kubuntu 18.04
Plasma 5.12.9
Framework 5.44.0
Qt 5.9.5
Smb4k 2.1.0

I'm still having the same issue.
Now running Kubuntu 20.04
Thank you for reporting this. I'm looking into it right now.
This issue has been fixed in this commit: https://invent.kde.org/network/smb4k/-/commit/87ad7f2ec66d79b29fe7b081ff7e629950062480
Excellent, thanks! :)
That leaves https://sourceforge.net/p/smb4k/discussion/help/thread/bb579662ca/ as the only remaining issue that prevents it from being the always-running, always-automatic solution :)
Is there a PPA for installing the latest build? Or the only way is to install from source? (the official repos still have 3.0.4).
Nevermind, I installed the deb manually from here: https://debian.pkgs.org/11/debian-main-amd64/smb4k_3.0.5-1_amd64.deb.html
The issue doesn't seem to be fixed. It still always comes up with a visible window, even when it was minimized before reboot or before quitting from the tray icon.
...Sorry, nevermind again. For some reason it took 2 reboots, but now it does appear to be working :)
