For anyone Interested I have narrowed it down to the PerlModule Slash That causes apache ( 1.3.14 ) to fail... But only when I hard stop then start up the server If I do a restart of the server it starts up fine. What does that mean? Does that mean that it is getting confused with an older version of Slash.pm? If so how can I remedy that? Where did the old Slash.pm get installed to? Should I just delete that? Any ideas very much appreciated. And thanks for all your comments thus far! Sincerely, -- Tom Pryor daVinci Interactive, LLC http://www.dvia.com/ office: 888-346-5973 to...@da... Do you have multiple virtual hosts? I found that the default slash install will put something like <Virtualhost www.mysite.com:80> and if you have another vitual host in the config somewhere, it will result in all kinds of strange errors. If you change it to <Virtualhost *> everything works ok Nicholas Ritter wrote: > I am still having problems, as described below regarding the 2.0.0pre1 RPM, > RH 7, on a pentium III 800. I am still having problems, as described below regarding the 2.0.0pre1 RPM, RH 7, on a pentium III 800. I am at a loss on this one... I have installed everything, and can get apache to run with out error, and get the slash index page to show up, but here are the problems I am having: 1) When the slash virtual server is in apache's config, running on port 83, the slash index page loads, but port 80 does not respond. 2) With slash running on port 80, it works but with the characteristics (which as shared in every respect) listed below: A. graphics are broken B. backslash admin link to pl script doesn't work C. nothing else can be viewed on the web site. When I take the include to the slash.conf out, everything works fine. Any ideas as to what could be happenning? Should I post my config files? BTW - I can able to run the test.pl that came with the mod_perl package without problems, and everything looks right. And as I had posted before, and Jonathan pointed out, my perl paths appear to be screwy from some reason. Nicholas |

Well, I would start by removing the Include of slash.conf from your httpd.conf. Then, if Apache works, add it back in, but comment out everything in it (including the Include line in it). If Apache fails with nothing from slash.conf in it, then Apache has a problem somewhere else. Keep adding things in until you find something that breaks it. -- Chris Nandor pu...@po... http://pudge.net/ Open Source Development Network pu...@os... http://osdn.com/ |

Ok, How about this - back up your old httpd.conf, move it to an new name, back up your old slash installation, and do the entire bender install verbatim, from scratch. It's gotta work. Something got left out in the install - I don't know what, but if you start from scratch, it should work, unless something is totally whacked with your OS or perl installation. The install process for bender ("make install") installs all the bender
modules (there's more than Slash.pm now) in the perl library path,
whereas the old slash put it in a local path (/home/slash ...). If you
did the 'make install' and do what Chris Nandor suggested anywhere
outside of your old slash installation (if you do it in the same
directory as the old Slash.pm, it's going to end up using that module),
it should give you a version report of 2.0.
Just do a 'locate Slash.pm' as root - that should show you all locations
of Slash.pm on your machine.

There should be nothing from the old install to interfere, unless you have an old Slash.pm around. Try `perl -MSlash -le 'print Slash->VERSION'` and see what you get.
