Hi there, Can anybody give me a live slashcode 2.0 database dump for slashcode 2.0 site? I am current involved in the research of multiprocessor system design. We have built a dynamic website workload based on slashcode 2.0. A driver simulating the users activities is written and we can certianly fill the website with this driver. However it is time consuming and not real enough. So it will be great if somebody can give me a live snapshot of their database for this study. Please help. We are designing machines to make your program run faster! Thanks in advance! -Min |

This is due to caching. You can either restart apache whenever you make
big changes or turn caching off for slash (somewhere in variables).

I'm getting unexpected behavior from new and altered templates. The latest happenings are very strange. I created new templates specific to a section (in this case a new dispStory and new display for a specific section). I can view the "correct" templates in one browser, but the other browser displays the "default" ones (same computer, same time, diff. browsers). Why is that? Also (less strange), there appears to be a lag time between the time I create a new template - and the time it actually starts appearing. Any thoughts on how to speed the "update" process along? It's hard to develop new sections when you get unpredictable results. Thanks, -jh |

HI, So in order to create a new Section you also duplicate the corresponding templates you wish to customize under the new sections, I got that much. However does it work with ALL templates? like the userlogin, home page customization, slashbox selection, etc? Thanx RRK |

Glad to hear about the fancybox fix. I've encountered the problem on the index page you spoke of. Still having problems. This is very strange. I'm going nuts, this does not seem to make sense. I have two templates: Acadia_Menu Guide_Menu They both contain text only. I call them from the display template using the code at bottom. Acadia_Menu appears in a fancybox just fine, but Guide_Menu does not (just appears as an empty box). Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong? > [% > contents = BLOCK; > INCLUDE Guide_Menu; > > END; > INCLUDE fancybox > title = "Area Menu" > contents = contents > center = 1; > %] -jh |

Yes, I have in my personal libraries a method that allows you to call a subroutine which takes the output of a template and inserts it into a fancybox. Before fry ships it will be included (solves the nasty problem of the boxes on the left hand side of the page not being really in fancyboxes). -Brian -- _______________________________________________________ Brian Aker, br...@ta... I'm trying to play around with the fancybox, and create new fancyboxes. Can a template included in a fancybox have logic evaluated? For instance, the included template has if / else statements.. will they be evaled? This is the basic code I've been playing with: [% contents = BLOCK; INCLUDE guidemenu; END; INCLUDE fancybox title = "Area Menu" contents = contents center = 1; %] Thanks.. jh |

As for why slash sets it? I haven't asked CmdrTaco, et al, but I suspect they set it because leaving that max request open is a nice recipe for a denial of service attack. Think of it this way, if there is no limit, then someone could just start sending *huge* requests to your server that would eventually cause it to crash. On my setup, I just kind of took an educated guess at what I thought the max file size would be, based on the type of files we were accepting, and then set the LimitRequestBody slightly higher than my expectations. It's worked pretty well so far... -Rod Heyd -- _________________________________________________________________ |Rodney S. Hi Rod: Yes, I am using 2.0. Sorry I forgot to mention this. I actually noticed that the default httpd.conf does not have an entry like LimitQuestBody, which is added in slash.conf, though. Is there any reason why slash does this. I placed my script in the original apache cgi-bin and it worked fine for read and returning smaller files, but failed when I tried with a big file. That is how I noticed the LimitRequestBody thing. I commented out the entry in the slash.conf file and it worked just fine. I am bit nervous, though, since I knows slash must do this for a reason. We modified the version 1.x version submit.pl to handle file uploads, and we had several problems getting it working, mostly because there is are several places where limits are placed on the size of an incoming request. Ultimately what it came down to was an apache directive, LimitRequestBody, which needed to be set appropriately in httpd.conf to accept files of the correct size. If you're using slash 2.0, all bets are off, as we haven't ported all of stuff to slash 2.0 yet, but it's possible that it's the same problem. -Rod -- _________________________________________________________________ |Rodney S. Hi everyone: I am writing a script that has to use fileupload. I had slashcode installed on my machine. The script works if I place on a different machine (same as mine except does not have slashcode installed). However, when I tried to run the same script from my machine under the slash htdocs directory where the other slash scripts are placed. I could not make it to work. It won't be able to read the file that I upload. Does anyone has a clue as to what can be wrong and how I can fix it. Thank you. Xiaowu Gai, PhD Associate Scientist L. H. So I installed the latest slash-2.0.0 on my apache 1.3.19 server. Set up the httpd.conf to Include the slash.conf. I noticed and found it very peculiar that the latter contains no "PerlModule Slash::Apache" statement. How on earth is this supposed to work? Or are we just supposed to know to include this line ourselves? Anyways, it seems to start up ok. Slash connects to mysql and there's no evident problems. But try to load any webpage in the DocumentRoot, and my httpd dies with a segmentation fault, signal 11. Waaaaah! It's real hard to know where to go with this, as there's no further info in the logs. I added some print statements to index.pl that I output to a tmp file, to see if the thing runs, and if it bombs out at any point. It runs. It gets all the way to the end of &main just fine. (It just doesn't display anything, because httpd bombs out.) This seems somewhat similar to a problem reported about a month ago by ben h kram in his post: http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/9539/2001/7/100/6083806/ (But there were no followups to his post.) I'm hoping against hope someone might have some fruitful suggestions for me. My configuration is very plain, vanilla, RedHat 7.1, running on a Pentium. (The only thing perhaps unusual is the small amount of physical memory on the machine, only 32M. I was getting "Out of memory" errors from the kernel, killing mysqld. I fixed them by adding more swap. I'll be setting up a machine with more memory shortly, but I thought I could get things up and running on this old box first.) Guy |

Only the first 3% (configurable) of all users can moderate. If you have the 6 default users plus 4 admins with uid < 10 this means that you have to have more than 300 registered users.
