No

Please, may you add (at least) a hidden preference, so that the table of contents is collapsed by default. It's really uncomfortable to manually collapse everything in big documents after every opening.

Also, the management of the contents table (adding, removing) would be a very pleasant feature. I know that Skim is not about changing the original PDF file, but it just would be so much better with this little feature.

You can just close the side pane, and this setting will stick for the next opening of a document.

And it is impossible to change the TOC without changing the PDF, and we cannot change the PDF.

I am not talking about the side pane itself. I have files with huge outlines in the table of contents, and I would like to set it to be collapsed by default. (Not changing the PDF, just collapse it every time I open a document)

This really is a matter of the PDF itself, which should indicate which items should be collapsed initially.

Yes, it is inherited from the PDF file itself, but that doesn't prevent to add an option to collapse everything within the pane at the opening of the document. This is practiced in Preview, browser PDF readers and many more. No changes to the file are needed. It would be the same, as manually collapsing everything in TOC after the document is opened, what I ask you is to add an option, so that it would be done automatically.

Also note that there are convenience methods to collapse (and expand) multiple items at once, like Option-click and Option-Command-Arrow.

Yes, that helps a bit, but still: opening a document with many chapters, each having multiple subchapters and so on makes it very uncomfortable to find something after each opening. So having auto collapse would be handy. Thanks for your attention anyways
