First, this thing is AWESOME!
It just beats the competition hands down. It has features that had never occurred to me...This is just so great to work on!
To improve perfection, a suggestion.
It would be great if you could add to the text of the highlighted notes the pages in the original of the pdf.
This way, when you want to take notes from the highlight areas, you get the whole thing in a text (which just transforms note taking from pdf's!!!)--but you also have the specific page for reference.
You're welcome. I always like to say good things about good work, and I'm glad it's appreciated.
However, I don't think my suggestion was understood.
What I am saying is that once you have highlighted different parts of a text, you can 'select all' in the notes pane and then copy-paste into a Word document--and you have in one sweep all the most important points of the paper in a word document, there for immediate access and revision. Moreover, you often need to cite this stuff in your own work, for which you need a page reference. Since you have the rather unusual feature of detecting the journal page as distinct from the pdf, you have the information already there. This is really helpful. But it;s not in the text you copy into your notes.
I also can't see what you mean about "doubling the info on the note." We're talking about adding just one number at the end of the text!
Now I know you are in physics and that the original audience was scientists and maybe you don't need to take notes in Word, but there is a huge audience out there in universities, that has mandatory reading and needs to take notes to write papers etc. This simplifies the process drastically. In classes, including mine, students request that even photocopies from books are OCR readable so that they can highlight and copy/paste. These are thousands and thousands of students who do this on a daily basis.
And of course, students, after they graduate, get jobs in the real world--and people usually feel attached to software they know well and has served them well. SO the potential market is big. I've looked at all the Mac pdfs that are free and this is the best.
I don't know applescripts and I have little time to look into it. Can't you at least leave it open in case some enterprising kid goes ahead and does it?

First, this would double the information in the note, because the note already knows the page it is on. So form an information perspectve it would not add anything. But it would add clutter to many users thta won't want this, so I relly think this would be more of a net negative for most users, therefore I really don't think we should do this. It's too specific. You can always add it yourself using AppleScrupt, that's why we added AppleScript support. [feature-requests:#1429] Copying Highlight NotesStatus: closed

OK, I did not get that point. ONe problem is that you don't really copy notes, you're copying rows in a table, and not all rows represent notes, som represent the attributed text for anchored notes. Also, there is really a lot of information of notes you could or could not add tyo the text you copy, where would it end? Why particularly pages?
I wonder if as an alernative the selected notes couldn't be copied using a template of choice, using the format used for export
Hi,I'm not sure why this is being made so complicated--and frankly I don't understand what you are referring to re: rows etc.
So here is how it looks. I highlighted many passages (this is from half an article, it would be much more). Then I copy pasted all the rows in the Notes Panes into Word.
And then I get a document, like the attached, with one move--whereas I would have needed to copy paste each passage separately into Word, back and forth, back and forth.
This is what students do (or would do if they were not lazy and it were easier). You then can quickly go over all the main points in a few minutes.
All I am saying is that the page number at the end would make this simple perfection (kindle does that, though it puts the whole reference, which is a pain, and totally unnecessary in this case).
As I said, if you don't want to do it, maybe someone else will?
Thanks

Btw, the numbers at the end of some paragraphs are just footnote numbers.

It's complicated because it's in a sense arbitrary. You want to copy data for noted. The question is what data. We just copy the text you see in the Notes column. That makes sense as what you;re copying: the selected rows in the table. You ask for some specific information, ibnclusing page numbers. Why just page numbers? I could think of all kind of information about the notes to add. So in that way it is arbitrary: it is what you would like to see., for your particular use That's not a really good pronciple to build a feature on (Apple calls ot the 80% rukle: develop for 80% of the users, not for jus any one).
As for rows, try adding an anchored note, and you will see there is an extra row which does not directly represent a note (even though it is associated to a note). You can also copy that row, as part of the selection.
My point about Copy As Template items is precisely that you can actually customize it exactly to your particular needs, as there is already support for custumizing templates.
Giving a page reference is arbitrary?
I am the only person who would want a page reference next to a quote?Citation is one of the main lines of business in the social sciences and humanities.
What else could one put in a note?
As I said, maybe someone else would have a broader view on this.
But ok, fine.

I see that this request is closed, but cannot help to add that to bypass the perceived sense of arbitrariness in the original requestors wishes - how about copying the values of all columns that are chosen to be displayed in the Notes pane?
Sunce the columns to display are controlled by the user, this would give the user control over what to copy.
In the present situation, there is a sense of arbitraryness (by the developer's choice) and a sense of losing data and thereby functionality.
Just a thought.
