#1621 "Invert colors in Dark Mode" not applied within vertical scrolling animation in non-continuous PDF modes

No

Setting(s):

  • macOS 15.8, with dark mode enagaged
  • Skim 1.7.16, with (i) Settings->Display->Invert colors in Dark Mode enabled and (ii) Menu->PDF->Single selected (or Double; these are the only two non-continuous PDF modes)

Action(s):

  1. Perform a vertical scroll gesture with trackpad (tested on the built-in trackpad of a MacBook and an Apple Bluetooth Magic Trackpad).

Bug:

The scrolling gesture will engage a slide-up/down animation that moves the displayed page(s) by tracking the gesture. Within that animation, color inversion is not applied despite the "Invert colors in Dark Mode" is enabled. The end result is a flash of bright light during dark mode. I have attached a 480p recording to demonstrate this bug.

    Annoying that they don't apply the inversion filters to the animation. Unfortunately, these animations are implemented by Apple and we have no control over them. (They aren't even public). The only way we can fix this is by not enabling these animations. Unfortunately, that comes with a bug in page navigation (not ours, but Apple's). Apple really makes it almost impossible to make PDFKit work.
