When annotating text, the text is that is highlighted and any text written in a note attached to that highlight are both important. So both texts should be included in the list of notes. And both texts should be exported. Unfortunately, with Skim, if a note is attached to a highlight (i.e., after highlighting text, double-clicking on the text and adding my own personal notes), then the text of the highlight is "obscured" from the list of notes and from any export. So as a workaround, I have to resort to create highlights and attached notes separately. In Skim, this means that I need to create 2 highlights: one so that the highlighted text is displayed, and another so that I can edit the note to have my own text.

As an example of I expect this to work, please use Preview for macOS and highlight text in a PDF and the attach a note to that higlight. If you open the "Highlights and Notes" view on the left-hand side, you will see that both the text from the highlight and the text from the attached note are displayed. This is great for searching annotation text and for exporting (via Mail) to, for example, Evernote.

This is not a bug. It's just how it works. There is only one text associated to a markup note. That's from Adobe's PDF specs. We fill in the highlighted text as a service, but it's not even required to do so.

Oh ok. Can I re-file this as a feature request then?
