You can define https hosts in the sitebar client but be aware that when you define a https host there that has a self issued certificate, that the process of adding that certificate cannot be done from the sidebar client, as it does not show the last popup that let you store the certificate.
Just call that host address from your main browser and add the certificate there, from then on the sitebar client will follow.
