Hi Zhang Cheng,

I have managed to get it working in windows now including those
using the mogrify() routine. The problem was that I was using 
sip-0.1.1-win5.zip which is what appears on the SIP homepage.
After installing   SIPToolbox-0.4.0-alpha-20050817.exe (excellent
job on the installation program!) and installing 
ImageMagick-6.2.3-Q16 I managed to get things to work. I should also
like to mention that using a different version of ImageMagick, say
6.2.5 and 6.2.6, I was unable to get SIP to load properly. 

I have two suggestions:

1-Placing a link to  SIPToolbox-0.4.0-alpha-20050817.exe on the homepage.

2-Placing a link to ImageMagick-6.2.3-Q16-windows-dll.exe on the homepage
since ImageMagick's site is no longer hosting it.

I tried your commands in Scilab 4.0 for Windows without error. In fact, 
before Scilab-4.0, all the SIP functions run correctly on Windows except 
for those functions calling ImageMagick's mogrify() rountine.
     Could you send a copy of your bmp file to me and let me to test it? 
I'm using Scilab-4.0.exe and ImageMagick-6.2.3-Q16.

[SIP-devel] animal compile error

Hi,

While trying to compile SIP on my 'new' computer I ran into a compile error
in animal verison 14.3 . 

In file included from img.c:41:
img_g.c_incl: In function 'imread_ascii':
img_g.c_incl:532: warning: format '%d' expects type 'int *', but argument 3 has type 'puint8 *'
img.c: In function 'imread':
img.c:150: error: invalid storage class for function 'RGBMagick2GrayIMG'
img.c:151: error: invalid storage class for function 'PSEUDOMagick2GrayIMG'
img.c:197: warning: implicit declaration of function 'RGBMagick2GrayIMG'
img.c:202: warning: implicit declaration of function 'PSEUDOMagick2GrayIMG'
make[2]: *** [img.lo] Error 1


After commenting out lines 150 and 151 of img.c animal seemed to compile fine with
no errors. SIP has also compiled with no problems and I have run all the demos
in scilab with no errors. 

I think the problem may be because I am using gcc 4.0.2 . Is anyone else using 
this version of gcc and if so have they had similar problems?

I try Scilab-4.0-rc1 for Windows on my machine and run SIP DEMO in it 
just now. I found the annoying crashes of SIP disappeared. It may be 
good news for us, but I need your verifications.

To Panagiotis, I'll give it a try to recompile SIP for Windows using 
ImageMagick 6.2.5-5Q16 (dynamic) or ImageMagick 6.2.6-0Q16. Thank you 
very much for all information you provided.

Thanks for that offer. As i reported Scilab crashed on my platform while 
executing imwrite() with the use of ImageMagick 6.2.5-5Q16 (dynamic).
The error message of Windows (except of theWscilex.exe problem) stated 
also something about the core_rl_magic.dll file.
 I uninstalled the SIP package and installed ImageMagick 6.2.6-0Q16. 
After a new installment of the SIP package i got the error message:

D:\PROGRA~1\SCILAB~1.1\contrib\siptoolbox\/lib/libsip.dll

I uninstalled and reinstalled everything (from scilab 3.1.1 to 
imagemagick) and installed then first imagemagick6.2.6-0Q16 and got the 
same problem after installing scilab and sip package again.

I guess the problem must result because of something ImageMagick version 
specific, what version do you use on your machines ? Unfortunately i 
can't find the binary version of 6.2.3 which Zhang refers and i think 
you both use. As long as for the imshow() problem i reported it 
resolved, and the other bugs are already known.(like display of true 
type images).

the best contribution you could give is to fix the bug . I know this
might be hard/boring, but it by far the most valuable contribution you
could make.

I am willing to share the software copyright with you and Zhang if
these issues are solved a new stable Windows version is released.
Also, it will bring you great fame, since there are a great many
windows users.. It would a good thing in you resume, and also
would probably grant you membership in the Scilab consortium, etc, etc.....

Ok i just figured out that when Imwrite is used WScilex.exe crashes, and 
windows xp halts scilab. Furthermore imshow doesn't work always, while
imshow 'filename' works ,
z=imread('filename');
imshow(z); , does not show anything else than an empty window.

I don't know if this a problem only on my system...

Ricardo, i switched from digest mode, so my reply subjects won't be 
anymore so cryptic, the list functions are somehow confusing, i was  
used to another structure , so i just clicked reply and didn't think of 
the subject.

Zhang i hope you've read my last posting with the cryptic subject "Re: 
SIPtoolbox-devel digest, Vol 1 #152 - 4 msgs". I did not know that  you 
've already had done most of the job.

I'll have to read me into the matter next days, and look at the 
structure of the project. Thank you for your patience, sourceforge is 
quite confusing for me as a newbie. I created today an account.

Great work !

Didn't want to duplicate any work done so far nor compete anyone. I've 
just now read the posts in the email archive, so i know what's going on. 
I thought this was still a pending job. ( i know newbies ... )

I tried the installer on my machine. It works fine !
(after running the loader.sce) but does crash too for me in the demo.

I'll see where else in the project i can make myself usefull.

Anonymous user can't login to the CVS server, you have to follow the 
instructions on sourceforge.net to get your username and password.

of the current sip toolbox.
Just have read some basics on the makefiles, c interfacing in Scilab 
etc. . I was wondering how i can connect to the CVS server as a 
developer so i can set up
my eclipse client for that. I am pondering if there is any specific 
username and password i have to use, or if the connection as anonymous 
user is ok  too.

I've understood how to equalize an indexed image after analyzing the 
relationship between RGB and YIQ colorspace. And now the equalized 
result is as same as that in Matlab. My next step is to write a robust 
interface which can equalize the grayscale and indexed images and its 
document.
    I've read the source code of equalize function implemented by 
ImageMagick. Its method is to equalize the R,G,B channels respectively, 
the equalized result in this way contains many extra colors which 
degrade the quality of image. I'll report the bug to ImageMagick.

I contacted the guys and they may merge their project with SIP in the
future. Basically a good feature of their toolbox is the ability to
deal with integer images, and they use Intel's OpenCV as a backend.

Yes, they seem to be quite active recently. We'll have a fruitful
exchange with them (even though they're not working directly together
with us).

YIQ colourspace then you may just want to equalize the
Y (intensity) component. I have also seen equalization
taking place over each R, G and B components.

Hi, guys!

    Because I'm unable to locate the bug which causes mogrify() crash, I 
decide to write a new set of functions to replace mogrify(). I've 
written a function called histeq() to equalize a grayscale image, and 
now I want to write some codes to handle with indexed image(color 
image), but I don't know how to do that. I read Matlab's source code and 
manual of histeq(), but I'm still confused. I know I should convert RGB 
colormap to YIQ colormap, and equalize component Y, but I don't know 
what should I do to adjust I and Q. Could you give me some tips or some URL?
