Dear friends,

The text representation of the values in file phi.out using the command:
SaveGeostatGrid  SIM::phi.out::gslib::0::phi__real0
has 6 digits.

However, the actual values of the properties in SGeMS using:
prop = sgems.get_property('SIM', 'phi__real0'))
has 12 digits.

Is there any way to print all 12 digits when using the SaveGeostatGrid
command?

[Sgems-users] Indicator variogram computation

Hi everyone,

I started to work with SGeMS recently; at the moment I try to generate indicator variograms for my data set.
What is not clear to me why bandwidth parameter seems to have nearly no influence on variogram computation?
I computed variograms for several directions (azimuths) with varying bandwidths (5...1000m). Regardless of whether I choose 5, 10, 100 or 1000m bandwidth there are almost the same number of points for variogram computation (for most azimuths the number of points is equal for all bandwidths, only for a few azimuths there are very few points more for bandwidth 1000 compared to bandwidth 5.

Hi Frederique,

There is a bug in that version when creating indicator variables.  Note
that I do not anymore support that version of sgems.  I have been working
on a new version with new visualization and added functionalities.  These
include the indicator transform but also categorical variables such as
post-processing of categories (as you mentionned in your previous emails).
 That version is in advanced stage, I am currently using it in short course
and would be available soon.  If you want to help in the development, send
me an email at abo...@ar... and I will send you a version in return
of feedbacks.

In your current situation you will have to write a small python script to
transform the data into indicators.

Hi Frederique,

The current solution (which I agree is not ideal) is to define your own color palette, with as many colors as you have categories. Just add your new palette to the "colormaps" folder (in sgems' install
directory) and restart sgems.

[Sgems-users] strange result on kriging and cokriging variances

Dear SGeMS Users,
 
I would like to share the strange result on kriging and cokriging variances in SGeMS. I am using SGeMS v2.1 and sometimes compared it to version v2.0 and GSLIB.
When I did kriging and have a look into the kriging variance, SGeMS v2.1 showed much larger values compared to GSLIB i.e. the mean is up to 4 times larger.
If we want to use the kriging variance to measure the accuracy on estimation result, this will be a serious problem, eventhough their kriged values are similar.
 
Also the cokriging variance obtained by SGeMS v2.1 is larger than GSLIB, and their cokriged values is bit different i.e. statistics variance of cokriged values is lower in GSLIB.
Moreover, strange result was seen in cokriging variance in SGeMS v2.1 where the values are very small close to 0 for the block where samples exist. 
When I tried to check the cokriging variance in SGeMS v2.0, it was not identified (-999) for the block where samples exist. I think GSLIB produced more realistic ones.

[Sgems-users] Experimental Covariance Function

We have a sparse primary data set and a densely sampled secondary data. 
When calculating the cross-semivariogram, one needs a secondary and 
primary datum collocated for all pairs. However, the cross-covariance 
can be calculated with primary at the head and secondary at the tail.

SGems appears to only calculate collocated paired data for the 
cross-covariance, which is problematic because it restricts the number 
of possible pairs unnecessarily. Is there any way around this?

The short answer is no.  Did you checked if the file sgems_history.log was
generated?  You may find some help in there.

Dear colleagues,

I am running SGeMS in a command call from another software. Is it possible
to get the error messages that would pop up when running SGeMS in
interactive mode (see below), also when running in SGeMS in command call

Dear Authors,

I have bought the book (2011 edition) and have the surprise of not having
received the CD. Amazon services have no idea where the CD is, but normally
one should be able to download it from a repository in a similar fashion as
for the software.

Please indicate where is this necessary repository.

I am not sure we have the data sets online, I'll look into it this

Dear Nicolas,

Same problem here as Cristian. I got the paperback edition from
amazon.co.uk three days ago but the cd is missing.

I was about to return my copy as defective and ask Amazon for another one,
but now I suspect their entire current stock could be missing the cd...
Please let me know how to get the contents of the cd, as I would rather
avoid waiting the time to get another copy still possibly lacking the cd.

Dear all SGeMS users,

Here is a very confusing *problem *I met *with *SGeMS and *SISIM 
categorial* (apparently inherent to SGeMS, never mentioned anywhere on 
the web)

What I would like to do : a Sequential Indicator Simulation of 
geological facies (categorial) conditionned upon synthetic data.

The inherent problem : realization of 3 facies instead of 2 as expected 
(*always one more than expected in each case*).

First I simulated two random facies in Matlab (50 data points) in a grid 
100 x 100, unit spacing. Then I run SISIM conditionned upon my hard data 
in SGeMS to get one realization with 2 facies. In property item (Hard 
data parameters) I selected facies data, not indicators (am I right?). 
In interval data, I selected nothing. The problem comes when I select 
'assign hard data to simulation grid' item. I get a realization with 3 
facies instead of 2,i.e. one facies = 0, another one = 1 and the last 
one = 2. The latter is restricted to the data point of facies 2. The 
same problem also happens if I select my two indicators in interval data 
and my facies in property. However, if I select one indicator in 
property instead of facies, I get two facies as expected, but 
conditionning occurs on one indicator only.

*I noticed the same problem in two examples*: one I found*in *a document 
intitled : *"S-GeMS Tutorial Notes", 26 june 2007, Geoff Bohling from 
Kansas Geological Survey*. Here, the author simulates 5 facies, but I 
can see 6 facies in the realization (data and parameters are provided at 
http://people.ku.edu/~gbohling/BoiseGeostat. Here is the document 
http://people.ku.edu/~gbohling/BoiseGeostat/SGeMSTutorial.pdf. Also, *in 
"Geostatistical Earth Modeling Software: User's Manual", Nicolas Remy , 
2004* : the example illustrated at Figure 3.8 using Stanford V data set 
and the same parameters. Again, result seems similar but if we zoom on 
it (in SGeMS), there are more facies than expected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
