VMDK and VDI support is a perfect feature match for our users. I´ve tested it on a couple of files and it works like a charm, but I have to say, that I am still forced to hold still, because the MSI installer is still gone. Please consider reinstating MSI Packages for 32 and 64Bit versions of your "godlike" product. I think for me and as I read in the forum threads of the prior versions for a lot of fellow SysOps and SysAdmins it would be very helpfull to get the MSI Installers back. Aside from comments of users that are advertising their "3rd Party Installer software products" MSI is a well know and damn good option for distributing great software like your 7-Zip !
Thanks a lot for another great beta - but please, think of the "MSI-Addicts" !
Greetings, from 127.0.0.1 - localhost !

Working as SA myself and I can say MSI is just for those who need a lot of hand-holding to do their job. Deployed the previous version with exe installer on countless development desktops without any problems. Mr Pavlov please do NOT bring back MSI, rather let people learn how to do their job right.
Thanks for the latest version!

7-Zip 15.07 beta also converts Right-to-Left Override Unicode Character (RLO) in file names to "_" character to prevent spoofing.
Maybe it's not good idea?
How often RLO is used in file names in real cases (not for spoofing)?
Are there better solutions to prevent RLO spoofing?

Will this feature corrupt filenames in Arabic, Hebrew that use right-to-left scripts ? If yes, it's really bad idea.

I guess such names can be used by native speakers of these languages.
Are there better solutions to prevent RLO spoofing?
Sure. You can check if the filename has at least one character in range of Arabic (0x0600--0x06FF) or Hebrew (0x0590-0x05F4) symbols. If not, than it may be a spoofing attempt, in other case it's probably just a valid filename.

Ok. It's wim with new compression flag (XPRESS-2?) that probably means XPRESS with another chunk size (4096 bytes in that case).
Next version of 7-Zip will support it.
Thanks!

It's my first post and first of all I'd like to thank you for your 7-Zip.
I have one question. When I use 7-Zip to extract files from .iso file, warning appears with a such content: "There are some data after the end of the payload data". But when I use WinRar to extract files from .iso file, no warning appears. Here is the link for the .iso file sample: http://rghost.net/7xx8nyZRC
One more thing. 7-Zip archive, created by 7-Zip little bit larger than WinRar 5 archive, created by WinRar

VictorVG, if you were a MS developer, could you make the MSI flawless, especially when you don't notice that the translator makes wings and cock of your tirade? (Sorry for being off-topic, but I was really impressed by your style!) I think it was a decent attempt for its time. However, I fully agree that the MSI now lags behind other installers with certain functionality. It is, perhaps, an overkill, an attempt to solve problems that don't ever raise for the majority of users...
Miroslav Katić and other MSI fans, you can try to assemble the MSI installer yourselves. 7-Zip source code does include WiX script. The first one to do that (and to publish the result somewhere in the Internet) will earn a certain amount of respect...

I didn't notice there's a wxs file inside the source code (I never looked inside the source code archive before). I already captured the changes made by the 15.0.7 installer on a x64 and a x86 vm to create a MSI installer (having WinMerge to compare file/directory changes and an Excel sheet with VBA macros to create component and file tags from plain file listings), but it should be easier that way. Bad news: the wxs file in the source code archive doesn't contain file associations, so that would be some extra work, maybe for a second build.
I think I'll need one or two days (I have a life beyond 7-Zip ;-)) to modify the wxs file for my installer projects' folder structure and then I'll upload MSIs for x86 and x64 here.

Please add to the 7-zip, possible packaging parts, when you type numbers (number of files)

Hi Igor,
thanks for your effort!
Have you also had the chance to fix the bug how 7-Zip handles temp files?
Thanks.

You want to prevent an installation format just because you don't use it?
As a retired software developer I can tell you that some companies REQUIRE that software be installed ONLY from an MSI installer.

And again a beta version.
I'm really looking forward to the stable version. Igor, good luck with that!

Yes, there are about 300 KB of zeros after the end of ISO file.
Probably, 7-Zip will ignore these zeros in next version.
Hi Igor,
Wondered if you're going to release an msi installer in the next build? Would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
