I've pointed out this problem before, but last time was something like a year ago, so I'll do it again. I see that the latest version of SMW is supposedly "1.8.0.5 (2013-05-17)", according to the mediawiki.org page: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Semantic_MediaWiki Using the extension distributor to download SMW gives me a file that has a README that says version 1.7.1 is still beta quality - so I assume the version offered on that page is actually a beta for 1.7.1, and not 1.8.0.5 that I expected to get. So, I did some looking around, and followed the links to semantic-mediawiki.org: https://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Installation That page claims to only offer information about "1.8.0", but it does offer a link to "download", so I followed that link, which took me to a page about downloading that doesn't offer much information: https://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Download Although that page just seems to be another wall between me and downloading SMW 1.8.0.5, at least it has a link to the SMW download page at sourceforge, here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/semediawiki/files/semediawiki/Semantic%20MediaWiki%201.8.0.4/ As you can see from the URL, that page only offers SMW version 1.8.0.4, not 1.8.0.5 that is supposed to be the most recent release. So, I whipped out my hacker-ninja skills and changed the 4 in the URL to a 5: https://sourceforge.net/projects/semediawiki/files/semediawiki/Semantic%20MediaWiki%201.8.0.5/ That page just gives me an error saying that the "file could not be found or is not available". So, to summarize, I've been to 5 different web pages across 3 different domains, and I still can't figure out how to download SMW 1.8.0.5. Keep in mind, I'm an SMW veteran, so this isn't my first time on a wild goose chase across the internet looking for SMW. Aside from pointing out all the walls again, I'd just really like to know where to get the current release of SMW. There must be a 6th wall somewhere that I've overlooked - or maybe there's another shorter path that leads to the final wall. If so, can someone share the URL? Oh, I just remembered, I think the last time this happened it turned out that the version mentioned on the mediawiki.org extension page was actually rescinded temporarily until some things could be polished a little better. If that's the case again, then maybe 1.8.0.4 is actually the latest stable version, and the extension page should be adjusted. I'll make that my working assumption and get 1.8.0.4 for now, until someone responds to this message with better info. -- View this message in context: http://wikimedia.7.x6.nabble.com/6-walls-blocking-an-SMW-1-8-0-5-download-tp5006407.html Sent from the Semantic Mediawiki - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |
