Hello my name is Grant, and I work the Ohio Northern University. We are currently working to produce an application that allows us to merge your application and ours so that students on campus with Chrombooks can take test, is there anyway you can help me integrate your software with our application? We are using moodle as well.
Thank you,
Grant
Hi Grant,
Chromebooks are not used at all in most European countries (because we have strict privacy regulations and laws for protecting student data and cannot use any U.S. cloud based products).
Also it seems that the architecture of Chromebooks / Chrome OS isn't close to Windows or macOS/iOS and it's Linux base probably cannot run the SEB browser (seb / seb2) based on Mozilla Firefox used in Windows and some Linux environments. So a Chroomebook version of SEB would probably require a completely new development, which isn't realistic right now.
Therefore Chromebooks were never an option for SEB until now. Maybe if we get some members in the SEB Consortium in future which want to prioritize a Chromebook version, we will be able to finance its development. Currently we are focusing on finalizing the iPad version of SEB.
Best regards,
Daniel

I work with an educational software service that has a online computer-based testing feature and we have recently integrated your service as another feature that our customers can use. Yes, it is in the US and I have read your post about the privacy regulations... This response is over a year old now, but there still seems to be a need for integration with Chromebooks as there are many school districts in the US that provide students with Chromebooks as a 1:1 technology initiative. Has there been any traction on this?
We would still need additional funding to add a Chromebook version to the platforms supported by SEB. None of the current members of the SEB Consortium require a Chromebook version. If you know of an institution, foundation, company etc. which would be interested to support a Chromebook version financially, make them aware of the SEB Consortium. If we have a request for a membership from the US, I'm sure we can find a way for accepting US entities as members (currently there are some legal details preventing that as mentioned on the website).
Is there a way Google themself would like to fund this?
If you or anybody reading this has contacts at Google, please bring that idea up.
In general, Google should offer a simple way to lock down student owned Chromebooks in BYOD scenarios without having to change the system configuration of these Chromebooks. There is a quite good and easy to apply lockdown mode on Chromebooks, but it works only on managed Chromebooks (owned by the institution).
Apple now provides an almost perfect single app lockdown (kiosk) mode for BYOD called Assessment Mode both for iOS (since iOS 9.3.3) and macOS (since macOS 15.4).
Both Microsoft in Windows and Google in ChromeOS and Android completely fail, they don't provide built-in BYOD support for e-assessment.
