Did you configure Safe Exam Browser already with a configuration file or link which you got from your university or school?

When SEB is started with the default configuration, it can be quit with the quit button in the lower right corner, after confirming it in the alert which is displayed then.

Did you also try to press cmd-Q ?

If this doesn't have an effect, try to press fn-F3-F6. If SEB wasn't configured differently, then you will see the preferences window where you can click the Quit button.

Otherwise just long press the power button on your Mac until it is force shut down, afterwards restart it with the power button.

Please let me know which of these options worked and if you already configured SEB before starting it.

Yes I did configure it with link. At least I think so.

I did try to press cmd+Q but nothing happends :(
fn F3 F6 does not work either.
If I click longpress on the power button I gor massege: "Safe exam brownser" interrupted restart. To contionue, quit Safeexam brownser. (Cancel / Try again) if I click Cancel, nothng happends, if I click Try again, the same mesage appears :(

Screenshot (photo actually). If I click to the quit button nothing happends, cmd Q doesn't work, fnF3F6 doesn't work either.
Now I've unpluged the computer and will wait until it runs out of battery.

You just need to keep the power button pressed as long as the Mac switches off (ignore the message and keep the button pressed). At least on the Macs I tested it this always worked.

But there is another shortcut which is easier I guess: Press ctrl and the power button, then the Mac will instantantly restart.

Maybe I could find out why this problem happend if you could send me the log file SEB writes to a specific hidden directory (after you restart your Mac).

In Finder select in the menu Go -> Go to Folder (or keys shift-cmd-G) and then copy the following path into the text field:
    ~/Library/Logs/Safe Exam Browser/

You will see one or several files with a name similar to org.safeexambrowser.Safe-Exam-Browser 2015-11-16 14-00.log

Would be great if you could send me those.

    :D it worked! :D

You really helped me, the computer restarted and it works :)
I did try to press ctrl and the power button, but it didn't work, but pressing power button as you advised did :D

    Thanks a lot!

What could be the reason for this problem? I folowed the instructions at installation and nothing went wrong. Problem occured when I tried to start the exam.
I read the instructions for the SEB but none of the commands to quit worked as I explained in previous posts.

I can see in the screenshot that this is the right file, but I would need the file itself. Please try to add the log file as an attachment.

Hmm, somehow it didn't work, I don't see the file. Maybe it would help to upload it as a ZIP file (right click in Finder on the file and select Compress).

  • Daniel Schneider

I have had a look at the error log now, but unfortunately it seems that the important part is missing. I can see in the log that you tried to start SEB many times but it displayed the error that it's not in the Applications folder. It seem that you then found out where to move it and it loaded the default start page at safeexambrowser.org. The last entry is from 2015/12/18 18:16:11, and at that time it was still showing safeexambrowser.org, not your university's exam page.

I guess after that last entry you reconfigured SEB with a .seb configuration file or link. Maybe your university's settings disabled logging or contained another path for the log file (maybe the Desktop or Documents folder).

You could try to search for a file containing "org.safeexambrowser.Safe-Exam-Browser" in its name, maybe you'll find another SEB .log file on your Mac.

Otherwise you should ask the responsible people at your university, they know what they set in their SEB exam configuration and maybe they'll find out why SEB is not running on your computer. Maybe you're not the only student having that problem. If they don't know why it's not running tell them to contact me.
