In [r15418] to [r15422], SDCC segfaults when trying to build the mos6502 library. However, disabling the pic ports at configure time is a workaround. I cannot test earlier [r15417], since it doesn't build unless the pic ports are disabled.
I suspect that this issue is related to [bugs:#3851].
