There's a cross-platform version in glib and it would be best to use that. OK, let's see now: (a) Thanks for the bug report and patch, but.. (b) In future, we have a bug tracker at sourceforge for these. (c) Both these problems are already fixed in CVS (has been for a long time). A new release if due out shortly. (d) You should never touch Makefile.in, you should only Makefile.am for tools that use automake, etc. Otherwise your changes get overwritten. Malcolm |

An additional problem - scrollkeeper uses the completely non-standard
strndup() function in libs/i18n.c. Folks seem to assume everyone runs Linux
- ah well. The following patch should be equivalent, if I read the strndup
man page correctly. The patch assumes strlcpy() is available - it really
should be a configure test, or use strncpy() and explicitly null terminate,
but I'm feeling lazy. And yes, I may return NULL pointers, but only if the
original code would. Blech - I feel slimy...

FYI, scrollkeeper 0.3.12 is just hopeless on non-GNU platforms. The included intl library doesn't build, and the Makefile.in files don't include $(INTLLIB) in the link commands of targets that use the intl functions. So if your libc doesn't include GNU gettext, you're hosed. I'm hacking the Makefile.in files, one link target at a time as they fail to link. Ah, I love open sores... -- Carson |

It is vital that we get a release out as soon as possible. Note that all translations for Scrollkeeper are done via the Translation Project (http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/contrib/po/HTML/), so you should try to submit any new updates via there. Thanks for the patch you submitted anyway. I'll try to incorporate it. Cheers, Malcolm |

Hi, here's the Serbian and Serbian latin translation of ScrollKeeper. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=803302&group_id=11543&atid=311543 I didn' check out from CVS (I'll do it later), because only now I've noticed that 0.3.13 is soon to go out. Please wait at least one more day so I can provide updated translations -- if you've changed any strings, of course ;-) Thanks, Danilo |

I know this and am going to fix it tonight -- it is something I have introduced (unintentionally) recently. I am just after build tests here. Cheers, Malcolm |

In a couple of days (literally, it will be on Friday), I am going to release version 0.3.13 of scrollkeeper. This is partly because we have done a lot of work recently fixing bugs and merging patches and partly out of self defense. Every man and their goldfish is trying to build on Solaris at the moment and is discovering that it doesn't work. That bug is being reported about once a day recently, so I want it to stop. So, in order to save me from messing up, can any kind people who are not running Red Hat Linux and who have a couple of spare minutes try to build what is in CVS at sourceforge. Just post a quick note back here if it all works, or let me know what exploded. I *think* we are fine, since I have been a lot more careful lately, plus half the recent patches have come from Sun, where they have already been reviewed and tested (and hopefully compiled). But it would not hurt to make sure. There is a much longer mail coming after the release with some areas that still need working on, but it would not be too surprising if 0.3.14 follows 0.3.13 fairly quickly with some more bug-fixes, etc. Cheers, Malcolm |

Hi Malcolm, You are right. I have to confess I haven't looked at the CVS before writing this email (my mistake). And we indeed use 0.3.11. So we will have to upgrade to 0.3.13 when it is out. Be cautious with those patches (check them before checking them in) from Glynn, some of them might be incorrect (I saw at least one that is). Nothing to do with Glynn really, he is just passing patches that he gets from the docs team. The problem is that in the last two years (while Sun pulled me from Gnome) nobody worked consistently with/on Scrollkeeper here so it kind of fell on the floor. This should improve now a bit. > > I have reduced the number of outstanding bugs in the tracker by a large > number recently (from around 50 to about a dozen), so they do get read > and acted upon. > > >>I noticed that install.c:add_doc_to_content_list() uses the titles >>content list entries to insert docs into them. I don't have a proper patch yet, but when I will have one I will add it there. Thanks for the help. Laszlo |

Nothing to do with Glynn really, he is just passing patches > that he gets from the docs team. Yeah, I undertood that Glynn was just the messenger. The patches themselves were mostly things that were already in CVS or that I had existing patches for (I think one was new and that's still on my pile of things to review). So I think we're being careful enough. In any case, just receiving patches -- no matter what the quality -- is always good. Worst case, it often shows another way to think about things, so I am always going to encourage it. > The problem is that in the last two > years (while Sun pulled me from Gnome) nobody worked consistently > with/on Scrollkeeper here so it kind of fell on the floor.
