Hello people, Had one issue with scrollkeeper. I had shown only man and info pages in Yelp when I was running Yelp as normal user. All categories under "Help Contents" | "Gnome - Desktop" were not there. Everything was right for root. After removing some scrollkeeper-* files from /tmp things are good. cd /tmp; ls -l | grep scrollkeeper drwxrwxrwx 15 500 500 1288 2003-12-06 09:23 scrollkeeper-0.3.14 -rw------- 1 root root 679513 2003-12-22 14:47 scrollkeeper-0.3.14.tar.gz -rwxr--r-- 1 root root 49699 2003-12-24 06:06 scrollkeeper-tempfile.0 -rwxr--r-- 1 root root 49699 2003-12-24 06:06 scrollkeeper-tempfile.1 -rwxr--r-- 1 ssl users 49699 2003-12-24 06:06 scrollkeeper-tempfile.2 -rwxr--r-- 1 root root 49699 2003-12-24 06:11 scrollkeeper-tempfile.3 -rwxr--r-- 1 root root 49699 2003-12-24 06:06 scrollkeeper-tempfile.4 report 1 for gentoo: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-devel-list/2003-March/msg00039.html report 2 for gentoo: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36273 report for debian: http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2003/debian-user-200305/msg01239.html Also have seen Mikael H. mentioned something in one bug report comment on bugzilla.gnome.org . There is nothing wrong with using an extra Perl module. It just becomes a dependency for the package. Completely normal. I would be very surprised if intltoolize with the intltool you have really does solve things properly (there are distcheck problems for a start and you now have po/Makefile.in.in that will be calling intltool scripts with some extra parameters), but whatever makes you happy. Thinking about it, that is stupid of me. I need to put the check in there. It comes back to the user not needing to have intltool installed. Malcolm |

Please supply an accurate bug report if you are having problems. Your "of course this doesn't work" comment makes no sense. As I explained yesterday, intltool is self-contained within the tarball. It does not need to be installed on your system. If it (intltool) is installed on your system, it will not make a difference because the version in the tarball will still be used. Before releasing, I did a test-build of this package on a system that only had intltool-0.27.2 installed locally and it worked, so what problem are you seeing? I am assuming that you are only running "./configure; make; make install", right? Cheers, Malcolm |

Let's try this again... Scrollkeeper 0.3.14 (codename: "Whoops") has now been uploaded to http://sourceforge.net/projects/scrollkeeper/ for general use. I also put up a source rpm this time, since the spec file has been corrected. This release fixes the showstopper problem in the 0.3.13 release: namely that it did not really build for most people. Aside from that, there have been no substantive changes. 0.3.14 ======= Released on: 6 December 2003 - Build fixes: - Correct problem with distributed intltool scripts. - Update rpm spec file. |

Intltool tries to apply one patch to po/Makefile.in.in (the default one) and I think it says something like "three hunks failed" or whatever. Hi Karl, I'm changing the CC to scrollkeeper-devel, since the announce is only for announcements. :-) On Fri, 2003-12-05 at 23:55, Karl Eichwalder wrote: > Malcolm Tredinnick <ma...@co...> writes: > > > I have just uploaded a tarball of the scrollkeepe-0.3.13 release to > > sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/scrollkeeper/). That's going to be a big problem and sort of points to a bug in intltool. :-( OK. The immediate solution is to install the CVS version of intltool (from GNOME CVS). The 48 hour solution is I have to work out a workaround and make a new release -- we may be moving to glib faster than I intended just to get something that is supported and works. The 120 hour solution is I have to have a talk with Kenneth and try to work out a long term fix for this. As I mentioned in another post to the list recently, intltool is meant to work solely from the distributed tarball. The change to OrigTree has broken this assumption. Sorry, I didn't notice this (because I do have OrigTree somewhere that the scripts can see it). Thanks for the bug report. I'll look into it on the weekend (just after midnight here now, so I'm not doing anything right at this moment). Cheers, Malcolm |

As I said in my last mail, the problem was making intltool work with gettext-0.12.1 and recent automakes. This is not some feature that was removed between 0.27.2 and the latest CVS version (0.28). It was not there in the first place. I am, in fact, using intltool code that is not even in CVS yet (but some variation of it should get in without problems), because of this bugfix. See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127936 for the details and the patch. In case you are worried, there is no problems with using unreleased intltool versions in production code -- the required intltool scripts are shipped as part of the scrollkeeper tarball. Intltool was designed like that; people building from tarballs do not need intltool installed (the same as with automake and autoconf). One of the bugs that was fixed in the scrollkeeper-0.3.13 was removing a mistaken test that required tarball builders to have intltool installed externally. Cheers, Malcolm |

I have just uploaded a tarball of the scrollkeepe-0.3.13 release to sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/scrollkeeper/). This is primarily a long overdue bug-fixing release, attempting to get the number of known bugs down to a minimum. 0.3.13 ======= Released on: 5 December 2003. - Runtime fixes: - Use a per-user directory for storing the extracted contents files. This avoids problems when multiple users share /tmp and use scrollkeeper. - Do XInclude processing on documents before extracting information. - By default, do not use the network to retrieve required DTDs. - Can be changed using the '-n' parameter to scrollkeeper-install and friends. - Do not segfault if an OMF file is invalid. - Build fixes: - Install various package documentation files. - Tidy up the build process a little bit and fix some portability bugs. - Update included gettext code. - Build fixes for specific platforms (Solaris and *BSD systems). - Detect installed version of the DocBook DTD at build time. - Allow the location of system XML catalog to be specified. - see the --with-xml-catalog flag. - Install locale-specific program files correctly (i.e. portably). - Allow scrollkeeper data directory to be customised - see the --with-partial-db-dir flag. - Upgrade supplied gettext and automake versions. - Miscellaneous: - Correctly register translated versions of documents by considering their category, rather than their titles. - Don't leak file descriptors when updating the database. This fixes resource starvation problems on some systems. - Fix some memory leaks. - Should now work with IPv6-enabled systems. - When using a non-default prefix, the scrollkeeper log files are updated correctly. - Many Sourceforge bug tracker bugs fixed and all outstanding patches in the patch tracker evaluated and applied if appropriate. - New maintainers - Malcolm Tredinnick - Miloslav Trmac (i18n maintainer) - Translation updates: - All translations coordinated via the Translation Project now. (http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/contrib/po/HTML/index.html) - Updated translations - am (Amharic) - Ge'ez Frontier Foundation - ca (Catalan) - Jordi Mallach - cs (Czech) - Miloslav Trmac - da (Danish) - Ole Laursen - hu (Hungarian) - Emese Kovacs - ja (Japanese) - Yukihiro Nakai, Shun-ichi Tahara - kn (Kannada) - Pramod - nl (Dutch) - Tino Meinen - no (Norwegian) - Kjartan Maraas - ro (Romanian) - Marius Andreiana - ru (Russian) - Dmitry Mastrukov - sk (Slovak) - Stanislav Visnovsky - sr (Serbian) - Danilo Segan - sv (Swedish) - Christian Rose - tr (Turkish) - Gorkem Cetin - vi (Vietnamese) - pclouds - zh_TW (Traditional Chinese) - Abel Cheung Cheers, Malcolm |

It is nearly there now, thanks. The problem is making intltool work
properly with automake >= 1.6 and gettext 0.12 (for a variety of
reasons, the old gettext stuff we were shipping with scrollkeeper was
causing more problems than it was solving). Intltool is pretty broken
w.r.t that kind of setup (a known problem that nobody has really been
motivated enough to fix), so it has taken a lot of tweaking and running
'make distcheck' over and over again to get it working. I think I have
nailed it now, though.
The stupid thing is that this is a lot of effort for only one release.
There is a lot of code in scrollkeeper that becomes easier to maintain
(and removes a lot of bugs and becomes more portable) if I introduce a
dependency on glib (which is so commonly available now that I am not
worried about doing so). That will require people to already have a
gettext setup that works and then I can just use the glib gettext stuff
and all is simpler. But I don't want to make that change yet, since it's
pretty invasive, so it's for the next release.
Cheers,
Malcolm

OK, wait a few hours more. The intltool problem is not solved completely
(scrolkeeper's distcheck still fails). I need to sleep now and pick this
up again tomorrow.

This is fixed in CVS and I am rolling the 0.3.14 release right this
minute ('make distcheck' is running). The only hold up is that I have
had to fix a bug in intltool first, but I think that is done.
So wait a couple of hours and grab the 0.3.14 release (at no extra
charge, you get about two dozen other bug fixes as well).

Hi guys,
I am quite new to list. I recently installed scrollkeeper-0.3.12, but i
found a problem for it.
the file `scrollkeeper.h.in` in `libs`, after configure, will substitute
into scrollkeeper.h, however, the content:
#define SCROLLKEEPERLOGFILE "@localstatedir@/log/scrollkeeper.log"
#define SCROLLKEEPERLOGFILE_ROT "@localstatedir@/log/scrollkeeper.log.1"
will be substituted into (scrollkeeper.h):
#define SCROLLKEEPERLOGFILE "${prefix}/var/log/scrollkeeper.log"
#define SCROLLKEEPERLOGFILE_ROT "${prefix}/var/log/scrollkeeper.log.1"
Look at the Makefile.am, the correct scrollkeeper.h.in should be:
#define SCROLLKEEPERLOGFILE SCROLLKEEPER_STATEDIR"/log/scrollkeeper.log"
#define SCROLLKEEPERLOGFILE_ROT \
SCROLLKEEPER_STATEDIR"/log/scrollkeeper.log.1"
So the value can be substituted correctly into the scrollkeeper.h.in
Any idea?
regards,
HOH
