Summary: progress dialog eating CPU time

Initial Comment:
This is strage: When I put Scribia in the background, my 
foreground appication is dog-slow. When I drag something 
over Scribia's scanning progress indicator, things speed up a 
lot in the foreground.

I have no clue about Mac internals, so this might be a stupid 
assumption: Does the progress indicator use spinning or 
something like it that eats a lot of cycles?
