Thanks so much Steven. Now that my pieces are working again… I like the shape of the Merida 2 set, but the yellow tint clashes with my board colors. Does anyone have a pure white Merida 2 set? Or, are there instructions somewhere on how to create piece sets? I have some beautiful Merida pgn files lying around… Cheers, Steve > On 5 Apr 16, at 5:46pm, Steve A <ste...@gm...> wrote: > > This should fix it. > The latest OS X is missing some tcl packages. This should fix it. The latest OS X is missing some tcl packages. Find attached the missing package, and install it into ScidvsPC app with something like tar xzf Img1.4.tgz mv Img1.4 /Applications/ScidvsMac.app/Contents/Frameworks/Img1.4 I'll have to make a new release i guess. Good morning Steven, Thanks for your reply - and while I’m here, for all your recent work. I moved the .scidvspc folder, as instructed. It reverted Scidvspc to its default setup, as expected, but selecting an ‘extra’ piece set still causes the error. I'd be pleased to send you a copy of .scidvspc but there doesn’t seem to be much point. Thanks again, Steve > On 4 Apr 16, at 10:30pm, Steve A <ste...@gm...> wrote: > > Someone else had this recently. Someone else had this recently. I think it is an OS X configuration problem. Please mv $HOME/.scidvspc $HOME/.scidvspc_broke (and send me a copy) and see if that fixes it. Hi, I’m suddenly unable to load any of the nice ‘extra’ piece sets on Mac. I made some changes to my Mac which might have broken something? The problem occurs with any version of ScidVsPC so it’s not a version problem. After trawling around the web I wonder if I’m missing tkImg. Are other Mac users able to load the ‘extra’ piece sets? Cheers, Steve Error: couldn't recognize image data couldn't recognize image data while executing "image create photo tempPieces$font$size -data $::pieceImageData($font,$size)" (procedure "setPieceData" line 5) invoked from within "setPieceData $font $size" (procedure "setPieceFont" line 4) invoked from within "setPieceFont Fritz" invoked from within ".bdOptions.pieces1.fritz invoke" ("uplevel" body line 1) invoked from within "uplevel #0 [list $w invoke]" (procedure "tk::ButtonUp" line 23) invoked from within "tk::ButtonUp .bdOptions.pieces1.fritz" (command bound to event) |

Hi, I'm thinking of trying to convert my repertoire files into a Tree Mask. My one question is, if I do the conversion and then have my comments moved into tree mask "comments," is there then a way to export those comments somehow? For instance, can I somehow export them back into annotations in a PGN file so that I can then send that file to someone else and let them read my annotations? Or, is it a one-way process where any comments you put into a Tree Mask can only be viewed via the Tree Mask functionality in SCIDvsPC? Thanks, --Kevin |

Hello all, I want to test, using pure "Linux" platform, a remote engine (Strockfish 7) running on Linux RaspBerry Pi 2 using SSH with a logging using keys. What i have already test and done with success : - Connecting from Arena (from Wine or From native Windows) using Putty + password - Connecting to RP2 from command line from Linux using ssh + keys authentication - Set and running many native Linux engine or using Wine to run specific Windows engine But When i try to start the engine using the field "command" where i have copied/past the tested SSH line command starting with "ssh ...." i get an message (sorry i forget to copy past here) saying that "ssh .... is not a command or a program" Is anybody get an idea ? Thanks Mauro. Yes, i knew castling diagrams are broken. Your changes are a little too many for me to work with at the moment, but this latex code is very useful ( i didnt have the slightest how to achieve these ends). \usepackage{ifthen} \usepackage{xstring} and maybe someone will get around to using it, or i will when i get some time . > Beside that, I simplified a bit the typeseting, increasing the vertical space between paragraphs so it will not be necessary to use line breaks often. I also replaced some line breaks with \vspace to avoid LaTeX warnings. Also put a \vspace before the closing horizontal line. Use them at your criteria. I also note these changes , which are probably desired, but employing these changes in the C won't be trivial for me, and might be too much work for little return. I found (by pure chance) that exporting to LaTeX fails when there is a diagram just before a O-O or O-O-O. Consulting the xskak manual, I discovered that the issue is on the commands \xskakget{movefrom} and \xskakget{moveto}. When the move is a castling, these comands do not return only one square, but two, separated by a comma. Therefore, if white castles short, movefrom=e1,h1 and moveto=g1,f1. That breaks the code that draws an arrow showing the last move. I modified the LaTeX file and created a new command \boardgamewithmarks to address these issues. Please keep in mind that it is the first time I program in LaTeX, so I found a crude solution after struggling for hours trying to find a more elegant one. I had to include the packages ifthen and xstring. I am including the relevant files. I added a file showing long castle for both sides, too. Thanks, Mauro |

Is there any way to use this post on chess.com as the basis for updating the documentation on the Find Best Move feature? This is a feature I've never really used because it is very confusing. Also, this chess.com post explains what the different numbers mean and how to manually mark a position as a tactic. Very, very helpful. https://www.chess.com/groups/forumview/quotfind-best-movequot-feature-and-quotmark-tact-exercisesquot2 I'm happy to write up the documentation and submit it as a patch if someone can tell me how to do that or point me to a link that explains how to submit documentation patches. Hmmm - you are probably right about disabling tree feature when engine is annotating, but i'm not sure why it would crash, and i have never seen this. The tree code is fairly robust afaik. Is it specific to one book ? If so , pls email me it. Please email me your system specs, and output from "gdb `which scid` core" and "bt" if running linux, or the crash details if available. Thanks, Steve |

I discovered that if I start an engine analysis (with book on) and Tree Window active, sometimes the first moves are made so fast (because of book lookup) that the Tree Window cannot refresh in time and the entire program crashes. I think Scid vc PC should temporarily disable Tree Window refresh when engine analysis is running. Even without the crash, the refresh operation needlessly slows the analysis. Thanks and congratulations for your great work, Mauro |

Hi, is it possible to connect a DGT electronic chess board with USB interface onto ScidVsPC. If yes, can anybody explain how this can be established. Regards Ronald Brink |

We've rebuilt the windows' builds and source tarball in the last couple of hours. The changes only really affect doing large PGN imports in windows, where we previously had a bottleneck/slowdown. (The code still isn't as fast as 4.14, before we implemented the new encoding checks though) cheers. Here are the 4.16 release candidates. It's not long since our last release, but we had a bug in the new UTF PGN export code which would rarely mess up the last few moves of a game, so time for a new one. Steve source http://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/source/scid_vs_pc-4.16.tgz/download win32 http://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/windows/Scid%20vs%20PC-4.16.exe/download win64 http://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/windows-64bit/Scid%20vs%20PC-4.16.x64.exe/download mac http://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/mac/ScidvsMac-4.16.dmg/download Changes New Checkmate/Stalemate general search option. Make fics premove work properly, and with promotion. New Switcher menus to Open Tree/Best Games/Change Icon, and negate any open base filter. The Best Games window can now be unsorted (on ELO). Tree window has a short-display option (default is on). New Merida1 piece set with large sizes (from Richard). Change the colours of switcher current-base and book/book-tuning/tree next-moves. Update all latex export features from Chess12 to the modern Skak (author Richard Ashwell) and add Latex previews for game exports (linux only). Some Opening-Report and Player-Report fixes, and fix the Opening-Table options window. Show the custom flag names in the statusbar. Player Info: Add an extra 'Filter Games' hyperlink. Tournament finder: Change behaviour re showing tournament crosstable. Portugese update from G. Silva. Spanish update from Benigno. Add 50 move draw detection to Phalanx and UCI computer games. And new fics 'smoves+' command stores move-time (%emt fields). Bug fixes Export PGN bugfix introduced in 4.15. Properly handle OpenRecentAsTree, if base is already opened. 'Round' wasn't getting shown in the gameinfo if Date was unset. Annotation: try to handle zero move games. Work aroud for occasional Tcl issue which affects piece dragging. Game Save dialog didn't have translations. Remove a heap of compiler warnings. Tournament finder was showing incorrect number of games. |

Hmmm...... our fast file open on Windows 64 still needs some work. It might be best to leave file open optimizations to the OS. Ok - the slower DB opens ScidvsPC-4.15 windows 64 bit version should now be fixed, and big databases should load much faster. Here is a 4.15.1 release. http://sourceforge.net/projects/scidvspc/files/windows-64bit/Scid%20vs%20PC-4.15.1.x64.exe/download But i have not tested it myself (due to lack of win64 system) so please try it out BTW, it is made from current subversion, and has quite a few new handy things in it, including: A better FICS premove Extra switcher context/bestgames menus Single row of buttons in the gamelist Custom flag names displayed in the statusbar Merida1 pieces are now bigger/high-res Checkmate/Stalemate item to the header search The Best Games window can now be *unsorted* (on ELO). Also, if tree is adjusting the gamelist, see gamelist end each refresh. Steven |
