Sorry if there is confusion here, I was just removing a forward from one list to the other. All rxsm-users subscribers are now subscribed to xsm- us...@li.... Currently you need to edit the "site.xml" file and append the username to the editors attribute of the xsmsite tag (as per admins). There is a todo to have a graphical interface for this option for v1.1 On Thu, Apr 06, 2006 at 03:47:35PM +0100, Ian Stuart wrote: > How do you change an existing user to be a "site editor"? > > -- > > Ian Stuart: Code Gorilla, Perl Laghu, & Land Rover fettler > +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ > | This is a signature. Whilst on the subject of galleries - are there any plans to include something like "JUpload" (http://jupload.sourceforge.net/) for multiple-file uploads? How hard would it be to extend the gallery to include video clips? (avi, mpep, quicktime, wmv?) The only tricky pit I can think of is grabbing a video-frame to use as the iconic representation of the clip (can you rely on 1st or last being a clear shot?) -- Ian Stuart: Code Gorilla, Perl Laghu, & Land Rover fettler +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | This is a signature. Yes, indeed it is. Much is not yet documented, my apologies!
Basically you want a basic connection.xml but set the "type" attribute
to "ftp" and above the <rootDir> element add:
<ftp>
<username>user</username>
<password>pass</password>
<host>hostname</host>
</ftp>
That should work just fine ;)
Andy
P.S. I intend to get examples up on the guides on rectang.com, will do
so soon...

Hello, This I cannot find in the FAQ. Is it possible already to maintain a site that can only be updated over ftp? I don't see any instructions how to do this. I've tried playing with connections.xml, but it didn't work. Thanks! Rogier Eggers |

I am pleased to announce the first official release of XSM! This release is based on 0.1_rc1 and the version numering scheme is the only significant change. Please upgrade all installations to 1.0 and report any issues you have. Of course, any thoughts on features for the next release would be great too ;) HandyAndE |

Doh. Sorry, just noticed that this is covered in the FAQ. Must have
overlooked that.
Excerpt from the FAQ:
Gallery and HTML pages fail to upload images
Gallery and HTML pages use a thumbnailer to generate the smaller
images. On UNIX systems it is possible for the application
server to fail to find an XServer to draw on. If this is the
case then put
export CATALINA_OPTS='-Djava.awt.headless=true'
in the tomcat startup scripts.
Note: that this only works for Tomcat, if you are using any
other servlet container you will need to check their
documentation.

I am setting up a small testsite with XSM from a server in my LAN. I want to test the gallery creation with XSM, but I just noticed that thumbnail creation requires X. So I installed X, hoping that XSM only depends on the X libraries, but it seems that it even requires a running X server. Really running an X server on that box is something I prefer not to do. Are there workarounds, so that X is not required? Or otherwise, can I let it connect with another X server on my LAN through the DISPLAY variable? I tried exporting the display variable to "someotherbox:1.0" just on the commandline and then restarting tomcat. But it doesn't help. The error message I currently get is: "Error: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable." Debug output below. Thanks for any tips ! I'm thinking about the uses of a diary/calendar system, so here are my
(first-cut) thoughts on the calendar and event objects.
I'm basing this fairly largely on the calendar in my phone, with some
extensions for the web environment.
Individual event objects:
Type of entry:
event: happens as defined
anniversary: happens on the same date every year (ie 24th December)
Title: The (short) title of the event,
Description: Long text about the event,
Location: (short) location for the event,
Start time & end time: 24hr clock. When the entry happens,
Start Date: Date of the start time,
End Date: Date of the end time (takes in all the midnights for the
intermediate dates),
Repeated: [none|daily|weekly|Fortnightly|monthly|yearly]
Repeat Until: Date (eg: allows you to have 9am to 1pm, for three
consecutive days),
Reference: URL for details about the event (may be external)
Fixedicatedness: [Tentitive|Proposed|Fixed]
Calendar object:
Displays the defined (defaults to current) month,
Days across the top (admin can define week start day),
"Current day" highlighted (different background colour?),
Date with events is href to page that lists[1] those events
- title of href is either the title of the single event, or "there
are N events listed for this day"
So, lets have an example or two (and yes, these are a tad.... focused)
Events:
Event | CCVT | Cross Country Vehicle Trial | Dunbar | 8:30am | 5pm |
25-Sept-2005 | 25-Sept-2005 | No-Repeat | |
http://domain.com/path/file.html | Fixed
Event | camping | Camping available for the weekend | Torphichen | 3pm |
9pm | 7-Sept-2005 | 11-Sept-2005 | No-Repeat | | /path/file2.html | Fixed
Anniversary | Club Birthday | This is the "official" date the club was
founded | | | | 12-February | | | |
http://other.domain.net/path/read.html | fixed
[1] The list is configurable, but I'd suggest the default is a table[2]:
Title | start (time @ date) | end (time @ date) | location |
(truncated?) description | reference URL
[2] Either a short table for just the day, or a longer table with (some
number) of events either side, and the href jumps to a named location
within the list, which is the first event of the day

OK, so as I thought over some feature requests I figured that captioning files was a good idea afterall. If your file has no caption then the filename is displayed instead. In the HTML embedded there are no longer categories, as that was just confusing - but I left the categories in on the book pages, as they could get longer - thoughts on that topic would be gratefully recieved. I proise this is the last conversion neccessary before 0.1 at which point I am starting an automated update process! In summary for devs - you need to make the following changes... any HTML pages with files embedded should have the "<category><title>...</title>" and "</category>" removed so there is just the <files>...</files> left following <images>...</images> Also, any files pages should have <file>filename.ext</file> changed to <file><path>filename.ext</path><caption></caption></file> sorry again - but you can blame gimpel for this one ;) Handy |

OK, so thanks to raster we have a new XSM button :) As I was updating the page I realised it was not making use of the HTMLs embedded images, so this has been changed. please update any links from "http://rectang.com/Software/XSM/Artwork/files/_files/xsm_button.png" to "http://rectang.com/Software/XSM/Artwork/_images/xsm_button.png" the old url will be removed soon. =0D =0D the latest XSM version now supports embedded images and files, just like = the=0D "book" document type. Please play ad give us feedback on this functionali= ty=0D =0D For developers / xsm deployers all html files will need "<images /><files= />"=0D added immediately before the "</html>" at the end of the document.=0D Not dooing this will cause errors. This should be the last modification t= o the=0D structure before the first release which marks the start of upgrade scrip= ts.=0D =0D Andy=0D |

Further to tracking down XSM users I have started some "artwork" so that those who want to advertise that XSM is powering their sites with a tidy banner can :) http://rectang.com/Software/XSM/Artwork/ (the icon next to "edit" sucked a bit - this is much better) A |

I am putting together a list of all sites managed by XSM (with screenshots) for the XSM area on rectang.com. If you would like your site to be included or know of a site that should be there please let me know. This page should be available in the next few days. HandyAndE |
