I've been trying for a couple days to get Rompr to install on ubuntu. Is
there an up to date set of instructions for debia/ubuntu?

I haven't tried it on ubuntu for quite some time (pretty much since systemd took over the universe) and I don't have an ubuntu install any more, but let me know what problems you're having and I'll see if I can help.

mostly how to install php5 and where to put everything after I do .....

I get the following

Package 'php5-curl' has no installation candidate
E: Package 'php5-sqlite' has no installation candidate
E: Package 'libapache2-mod-php5' has no installation candidate
E: Unable to locate package php5-json
E: Unable to locate package php5-xml
E: Unable to locate package php5-mbstring

Yeah I do need to update the instructions, but I don't current;y have any linux installation to test with.

Anyway Ubuntu now uses PHP7. There's a link in the instructions to a thread on the discussion about what packages to install if you have php7. Just ignore php5. The rest of the install should be just a case of following the instructions.

HI ... thanks for the helkp ....

SO I install nginx ... which is a web server? I thought apache is doing that?... I follow the instructions and I get the following errors.... I assume cause I'm running on the same port as apache... do i need to do something for them to weork together?

OK ... got it with Apache .... now getting the below when I restart apache.... is there something I missed

yeah you don't need nginx and Apache, just one or the other.

Your apache error sounds like you haven't enabled the apache modules as described in the instructions. If you have done that and it still isn't working then I guess the headers module needs to be installed. Try looking for a package called something like libapache2-mod-headers.

Do make sure you read the instrctions carefully. The code does assume that they have been followed to the letter.

awesome ... your boing a big help ..I'm almost there ... I know get the rompr settings page .... but i get this error for running sql lite.:

SQLSTATE[HY000] [14] unable to open database file

I'm getting this error when I try to set up the regular sql tweaks :- mysql: [ERROR] Found option without preceding group in config file /etc/mysql/conf.d/rompr-tweaks.cnf at line 1!
mysql: [ERROR] mysql: unknown option '-1'

OK that said .... I think we are working .... i just hit scan music database, I'm assuming it's doing that and building the sql file now... I think then... the last thing is to get the tweaks to work .

It still sounds like you haven't read the instructions. Please do that. You haven't set the permissions on the prefs and albumart directories, which is why it couldn't open the database file. Also you don't need both sqlite and mysql, just one or the other. Unless you need mysql for some other reason just use sqlite. The tweaks are only for mysql.

I have run these a doxen times now ;

sudo chmod -R ugo+rw /var/www/html/rompr/albumart
sudo chmod -R ugo+rw /var/www/html/rompr/prefs/

Clearly it;s a permissions error .... but i've followed the instructions ...

as well ... have compeltly set permissions according to the directions and i get the following in my apache2 error log:

WOW ...ok this interface is spectacular.. it took some work to get it working. I'm still not able to do a database scan, it get a handfull of folders and fails. ALso .... is there a way to sort by genre?

You're getting this error:

Which suggests that rompr is not configured correctly. The most likely cause is still permissions on the prefs directory. If you can't sort that out nothing is going to work. You've done

sudo chmod -R ugo+rw /var/www/html/rompr/prefs/

whereas the instructions are very clear:

sudo chmod -R ugo+rw /var/www/html/rompr/prefs

Note the lack of the trailing /. Same for albumart.

Like I say, instructions. Read, understand, then follow in logical steps. Do not rush.

No there is no way to sort by genre.

You're hitting a PHP memory limit. This is set in the apache rompr.conf to 256MB. Since you are hitting the system default of 128MB it would appear that you have not installed or perhaps not edited the rompr.conf correctly. Again, this is in the instructions.

Find where your romr.conf is, and come bacl here and tell me the locaion where it was and copy and paste the entire contents of the file into here.

Ah hang on a minute. I wonder if this is another of those things related to PHP 7.

Can you find your rompr.conf and where it says

<IfModule mod_php5.c>

Change it to

<IfModule mod_php7.c>

Then restart apache and try again.

I'm guessing, because I don't have PHP7 to test with but it looks likely.

Firstly you are missing a line from the top of the file. The first line of rompr.conf must be

Alias /rompr /var/www/html/rompr

Secondly is this a typo or is this what it really looks like?

<Directory var="" www="" html="" rompr="">

Should be

<Directory /var/www/html/rompr>

You've also got

php_admin_value upload_tmp_dir /PATH-TO-ROMPR/prefs

Which should be

 php_admin_value upload_tmp_dir /var/www/html/rompr/prefs

and

<Directory var="" www="" html="" rompr="" albumart="" small="">

shold be

<Directory /var/www/html/rompr/albumart/small>

and

<Directory var="" www="" html="" rompr="" albumart="" asdownloaded="">

should be

 <Directory /var/www/html/rompr/albumart/asdownloaded>

Correct all of those, restart apache:

sudo service apache2 restart

then try again.

GReat thanks for pointing that out... I didn't realize when I made the post that things had changed from the cut and past .... NO there are not " " in the script ... somewhere in the html things got screwed up on this forum .... lets test it,.... her's my config ... that is directly copied from YOUR instructions and looks perfect in my chrome browser pasted in here.
