Hello,

I hope someone will seen this soon and reply?

It's been a long time since I've used Rootkit Hunter, supposedly went out of development, but I see a recent release.

Now looking back on skdet and Unhide, skdet's last version dates back 10 years and Unhide 5 years. So these both make me wonder if there's really any value in using them still. I can see how Unhide can still do it's job, but it also makes me wonder if technology, some things have changed, so they can get around Unhide now, and using an app that is 10 years old to scan for rootkits makes no sense...

Thanks

RKH only runs the skdet/unhide tests if the programs are present on the system. If you don't want to use them, then just don't install them.

Hi, of course I understand everything you mentioned, but I'm trying to be specific here over these programs and their age, and usability, if there's any worth to them, as old as they are.

Can you please elaborate on these programs, being as dated as they are, if there's much worth here?

I personally don't get how a 10 year old rootkit app has any value, I would of assumed by now, that any rootkits of value, RKH would take care of, and incorporate those into it, rather then using skdet...

    Thanks

Old rootkits do reappear, so old programs may well pick them up.
I'm not really sure what so of answer you are expecting.
As said before, rkhunterjust uses them if they are present.

I guess the answer, for this type of question is, how many people are running 10 year old software on their computers? Not many, if any to be honest...

10 years old in Technology is like WAY OLD...

But you've answered, by saying 'Old Rootkits' do appear, so being 10 years old, I guess we can say there is still some use for it.

BUT, if it's not to difficult, can whatever Skdet is doing be incorporated into RKH, so we can at least eliminate the need for this additional app, that would be great...

    Thanks
