I am overwhelmed by the sheer number of open source remote desktop 
software in the world. How many open source remote desktop software 
projects are there in the world? There are simply too many choices! I 
don't know how to choose!

Could you recommend some of the best open source remote desktop 
software?

[Remmina-common] Remmina keyboard problem

Hi Everybody

I have recently installed remmina on my debian (wheezy/ remmina
1.0.0-4) system. It works well but when I connect a RDP server the
keyboard does not work. I made a test on an another computer with
debian (jessie/ remmina 1.1.1-2) and when I open a connection get the
following messages..

Hi Steffen,

Remmina development is not anymore on Source Forge.

Please follow us on Github https://github.com/FreeRDP/Remmina

You can have a look on the wiki, for instructions on how to build
Remmina on some distributions, and if you still have any issues, you can
open a ticket (on github).

[Remmina-common] How to add custom keyboard layouts to RDP?

Hi everyone!

How can I add keyboard layouts to the RDP plugin? I downloaded the sources from SourceForge but I can't seem to find ANY references to the keyboard layout section in the preferences dialouge.

I also had a quick look at the github repo but couldn't find anything either.

Sooo... where do the layouts come from?

I'm using Remmina to connect to remote PC through VNC.
Some times the remote PC has 2 screens, however with Remmina I see only 
one screen:
  - is there a way to get the two screens in Remmina (for instance in 
tabs, like Anydesk does) ?
  - if it's not possible now, could it be added in a future version ?

Suggestion:

When transferring files in Remmina could you create a "apply to all"
option or button?

Meaning if I am transferring files and get disconnected and restart the
transfer, I would like a "Skip" or "Replace" with a "Apply to all"
option in the process to have that option would be good.

I am using version 1.1.0 (the most recent available in the repository) 
on a Debian based system (64bit). I log on on to several server using 
RDP  (Win 2003 & 2008) and I am able to stay logged on indefinitely. We 
have a cluster of servers (all 2008R2 64bit) which act as out terminal 
server application servers and I keep being disconnected after being 
idle for around 3 minutes. This does not happen when I log on to the 
same servers on my window PC only when I use my Debian PC and Remmina, 
can you advise is there a setting somewhere that controls idle time out?

I am trying to setup remmina to use both the rdp ( which works) and the VNC
(which does not work) on my laptop.
When I create a connection for VNC using a specific port to any system
running linux all I get is a gray screen.  No desktop appears and when I
check the system from a different source it does not show any connection
from my laptop.  What am I missing in this config for this to work?

As you maybe know, since July  2014, myself, Giovanni Panozzo (giox069)
and Fabio Castelli (aka Muflone), are the main developers and Remmina
maintainers.

[Remmina-common] Trouble with keyboard

Hi,

I am having some trouble with Remmina in connecting to a Windows 7 box. 
I can connect and the mouse works, but the keyboard does not. I have 
played around with the settings including the keyboard settings, but no 
joy. The keyboard works if use a Windows client to connect, but I would 
prefer to use Linux.

I've switched to Remmina recently as I've found it has a great interface for accessing multiple remote devices.

However I primarily use it for SSH sessions and wanted to know if it is possible to change the SSH Terminal application used?

I much prefer Linux Mint using the build in OpenSSH client over the one that comes with Remmina.

Hi to all again.

Another unused compile-time feature I would like to remove from Remmina 
is non-threaded support.

Remmina currently is unable to compile without pthreads. Despite the
presence of #ifdef HAVE_PTHREADS in some files, the majority of the
remmina code can't work without multithreading of libpthreads.

Another good idea will be switching from pthreads to GLib threads:
this will give remmina more portability to other OS. Remmina is
currently not portable, and maybe it will never be, but using
GLib threads should ease a future porting effort.

Please feel free to post your opinion here.

If we don't receive any comment in the next days, we will switch to a 
multithreaded only remmina, preferably with GLib threads.

Is this the first time you compile Remmina on Sabayon? Did you have

[Remmina-common] Question: Remmina-NX under Ubuntu 12.04 Connecting to NoMachine OSX

I am running ubuntu 12.04 fully updated, Remmina (0.9.99.1) with the NX plugin.  I am trying to connect to a server for which I have SSH access via ssh key (in ~/.ssh/id_rsa) but _not_ via password.  I am connecting to an OSX Mavericks server running NoMachine.  I have been able to connect Ubuntu/NoMachine to OSX/NoMachine on the local network.  Now I am trying Ubuntu/Remmina to OSX/NoMachine remotely.

I am quite confused on the settings & the responses I'm getting.  Under the Basic tab, I put the server IP and pointed it to my ssh key.  For username/password, I gave the username/password of my account on the OSX server (though I am not able to use that password for ssh, you understand, only the key).  When I try to connect, I get: 


"NX SSH authentication failed: Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey"


When I try going under the SSH tab and enabling the tunnel for "same server at port 22" and using "Public Key (automatic)" or pointing at my identity file (my ssh key), it gives me the same response whether I use "tunnel via loopback address" or not.


 Finally, I tried setting up a tunnel connecting my local port 4000 to port 4000 on the mac, and then using remmina to connect to localhost:4000 with the uname/pwd of the OSX server (I also tried uname/pwd of my local machine, which runs sshd and is accessible via password).  In either case, I received:


"Failed to startup SSH session: timeout connecting to localhost"


I am very confused.  Can someone help?

I built the latest dev code.  Copy paste works, but when connected to a
linux system running xrdp it hangs and terminates quite regularly.  The
rpm distributed xfreerdp client does not.  Lots to work on I suppose :)

We created a branch, gtk3, with the intention to move definitively from 
gtk2 to gtk3, but as this is a huge task for us, we will probably just 
fix the most annoying and important issues and complete the gtk3 
migration later.

Please, tell us what do you think, any criticism will be welcome, but 
don't forget that we are just users that wants to improve a bit the tool 
that we use everyday. (Personally I'm even not a developer, well I don't 
speak C fluently).

Clipboard support has been extensively improved in the last days/weeks 
(thanks Giovanni), we would love if you could test it (Remmina gtk3 branch).

Even sound and drive share support is working now!!!
