I had the same problem and I tried many things including moving HDD to another computer - results were the same. Even different versions (3.0.2 and 4.0) had the same error (no matter what software was used to create bootable flash). My solution: Make bootable flash drive with Ubuntu linux, boot to it, run Disk program, select each partition on each drive and perform Repair partition on it. Reboot again into Redo and now it should work without error.

Greetings! Product looks wonderful. The source dropdown box shows all drives. (2 SSD's one spinner and a USB drive) After selecting a source drive and clicking Next to select a target drive, the only drive shown is the USB boot drive. (Hope to backup/clone the SSD ) Have fun, Paxton

My issue was I used rufus to create a bootable usb for redo rescue. I initially used etcher which was recommended on their site but was too lazy to redownload it so I figured maybe rufus can be a good alternative. Using etcher fixed the issue for me, and it was what I used a lot previously for redo rescue until I got lazy.

I'm planning to clone my old Intel PC's image and restore it onto my newer AMD PC. I'm concerned that I might run into issues like being unable to boot due to driver incompatibilities. I recall that Acronis and Paragon had this feature called Universal Restore or Adaptive Restore (back when I used them on Windows 7). Good morning, I have been using Redo for many years and I am fine with it. In the next few days I should carry out this activity. Restore the hard drive (traditional technology) of my laptop to an SSD drive. The current disk is 1Tb and the SSD is 2Tb. Debian is 100% open source, based on a current linux kernel. Newer kernels have great compatibility with new computers while losing compatibility with older ones, so the linux kernel does not grow too much in size. I am using Windows 11 on a Dell Inspiron 7415 laptop. I have been trying to backup 6 partitions on my hard drive, to an 128GB USB drive, but after writing around 4GB (out of around 90GB) I consistently get the following error: "Fatal error: Operation failed and must be cancelled. I may have solved this myself. Suspecting that the problem is due to the need for a 32-bit version of Redo, I downloaded and tried the Nov 21, 2012 Redo Backup version 1.0.4 (which is probably what I used for the 2017 backup) and this seems to be working (restore is in process now). Later: Got "1 write error." Will try again. Still later: Retried with Redo in Safe Mode, and restoration of Win XP was successful.

I have a Win XP backup done in 2017 that I need to restore and I cannot get my existing Redo bootable USB containing some older version of Redo, or a fresh bootable USB containing the current version, to work. Please don't misunderstand! We definitely agree that restoring from any backup made with an official Redo release is not an "edge-case scenario." However, let's be clear: you are referring to forks of our project, not Redo itself. With regard to the bug you mentioned: Obviously all data was not lost, and is safely stored in the backup. This is evidenced by the fact that the vast majority did not encounter the problem, as it would require certain alterations to their hardware configuration even though...

Thanks! I still have Redo Rescue on a Samsung laptop with Windows 10. Sadly, my Toshiba laptop blew up spectacularly in a dazzlingly wild screen display shortly after I put Rescue on it. No software fix for that! It made a sound between the roar of a T-Rex and a lion when that happened. I am fooling myself with the disassembly of that as if I could resurrect that lifeless laptop. You are exactly correct. We missed this the first time around, but upon testing with two SATA drives, the behavior you describe is present. The only way to correct it is to close and re-open the Redo application. We've opened an issue to get this fixed in the next release. Thanks again for your input!

Hi Donald, Whether you write the image to a DVD or a USB stick, you will likely need to press a key immediately after powering on to tell it which device to boot from. Example keys are ESC, F12, F11, F10, F8, and DEL. Often these must be pressed (not held) rapidly to get it to take effect when powering on. It is more likely that the lack of hardware support for more recent GPUs in Debian 10 is causing the trouble. Hello Krzysztof, Windows 10, when shut down normally, may leave the NTFS partition in a "dirty" state that may not permit data to be read or restored as expected -- see https://github.com/redorescue/redorescue/issues/74 to see if this might be the issue.

Version 4.0.0: Based on Debian 11! This release upgrades the base OS from Debian 10 to Debian 11 (Bullseye). Other than updating the base operating system and its packages, the underlying application remains identical to 3.0.2 to simplify troubleshooting. This should bring a significant improvement in hardware supported for those with newer machines that booted to a login prompt rather than the graphical user interface. redorescue-3.0.2.iso I have tried this on two real systems and one VirtualBox system by booting from USB. The first Backup screen displays all drives and I select the 2nd drive (sdb) and press Next The next screen then asks me to select the partitions on sda !!! I love Redo Rescue. I'm doing something a bit different and I ran into a major roadblock. I have a 2TB Linux install, which I created an image of. Then I setup a hardware Dell PERC-5 card connected to 2x 2TB HDDs. The array was initialized and exists just fine. When I tried to restore the image to the 2TB HDD RAID-1 array, RedoRescue tells me that the source image is 0.5TB larger than the 2TB destination (RAID array). It works perfectly fine if there is no Hard drive ( C drive) failure in our computer/laptop. Does this redo backup solution still work in case of hard drive failure ( C drive crashes) , because we have no windows ( or other OS) in our computer system to begin...

Hi, I use Redo Rescue 3.0.2. I have downloaded it today. I have 2 hdd drives. On the first drive I have got Tumbleweed and Windows. On the second drive I have got a Debian and NTFS partition. I did backup of my Debian distro that is placed on the NTFS partition on the second drive. It worked flawlessly. I wanted to backup my Windows too but when I try to save backup on the NTFS partition on the second drive I have got a warning. Disk is unconnected and read-only. What is going on?

I had a very similar problem. When loading Debian, it shows firmware: failed to load ath10k/pre-cal-pci-0000:2b:00;0;bin firmware: failed to load ath10k/cal-pci-0000:2b:00;0;bin and it ends with the Devian login on the CLI. I tried with v.3.0.1 and v.3.0.2, and they shows the same error (IMG_6509.JPG) with v.3.0.0 it shows more failures (IMG_6510.JPG) Is there any workaround I can use? for example running the Redo Rescue from the CLI. Thx! (The machine is a Dell Inspiron 15 5000)

Hello, I am trying to use Redo Rescue, from a USB stick on a Shuttle DH410 with Intel Tiger lake processor (Pentium G6500). This is a UEFI only system. Redo Rescue boots and presents the menu. After selecting to start Redo Rescue, it reports and error and does not start Redo Rescue application. As suggested somewhere else, inside Discussion, I tried also Debian 10 Live (both free and non-free with XFCE and KDE). I got the same result. So, the issue is probably in the kernel 4.19. Redo Rescue is Linux, i don't understand what you mean your case is windows 10.
