Martin will most likely work on the 1880 problems with the xml and svg files this weekend (he told me via private mail). After this there will be another alpha which should have a testable version of 2.0 with 1880. On 04/02/2014 02:29 PM, Stefan Frey wrote: > Have you tried the released 1.8.7? Have you tried the released 1.8.7? I tested it on the released files from the sourceforge page. Both errors show up directly after loading the save files. However I would prefer not to further put to many resources into tracking it down, as it neither occurs in 1.7.12 and most likely not in 2.0. What is the problem for revenue calculation? I've been seeing a problem where an exception gets thrown when calculating a run with an 8E train in 1.8.7. Curiously, I've built my own 1.8.7, and I can't reproduce the problem even with the same save file. So I have no idea what is going on there. Brett & Erik: after closing the recent ticket (see previous mails) I wanted to add new milestones (versions of Rails, the most current one is 1.4.) to the bug tracker in sf. However this is only allowed to those with admin rights for Rails. I wonder if you would agree that we should add more devs with admin rights. I know that without you Rails was never started nor got this far. However both of you have not been very active recently. I hope this proposal is ok with you, especially considering that we have to setup a new repo anyway if migrate to github? Stefan |

There was a bug-report regarding revenue calculation in rails 1.8.7 for 18EU. This bug has been confirmed, but did not occur in rails 1.7.x series. So it was introduced by the changes for 1880. Since the first alpha release there is the recommendation on the homepage of rails to use the 1.8.x releases only for 1880, but play all other games on 1.7.x I will not triage the bug in 1.8.7 as it is possible to downgrade to 1.7.12 or to upgrade to rails 2.x in the future. This is not to discourage anyone of you who brought 1880 to Rails. It is quite natural in the beginning to break some of the other games, as it is not clear what the core is that should not be touched. Nearly all code I have written in the beginning of my participation has been changed already, as I had the same problems ;-) Stefan |

Martin & Alexander, I have updated all revenue modifiers for rails 2.0 in my branch sfy_1880. Fortunately most of them could be simplified, but I admit I had insider knowledge of the inner workings. ;-) The test game from Martin had no Transsib route. Does anyone of you have a save file that have this route included to test that modifier? All others are tested. After this I will look into the remaining bug reports for 1880. Do you other things to have fixed for the upcoming release of 1880? I would like to release an alpha 5 soon, that allows testing 1880 on Rails 2.0, especially the new start rounds. Stefan |

Okay, perfect. The most current update of my code is in sfy_1880. It runs your test game until the end, however it fails to build the map as tile 455 is missing. I have made some more progress to remove bugs that still exist in 1880 from the merge into Rails 2.0. Most of them were related to the fact that executed actions are checked against allowed actions. However it seems that the code base used to merge 1880 into Rails 2.0 did not include everything up-to Rails 1.8.7: Especially some svg tiles are missing and the xml definitions deviate. I do not know exactly how this could happen, as they should have been identical at the start of the merge. In addition there are a lot of keys missing in LocalisedText.properties for 1880, which is not the case in Rails 1.8.7. An example what is missing are the svg-files for tiles 455,-9021,-9031. Those belonged to commit 3f9305 from two years ago, which was based on a patch from Martin commited by Erik. However I cannot simply cherry-pick this commit, as it also contains many changes to the java classes, which later on have changed again. Could anyone of you double-check what happened and give an indication which patches/components are still missing? Otherwise I will simply add those files that are obviously missing (svg) and will compare the *.xml definition files and LocalisedText properties and edit them manually. ===> Imporant remark: Please keep in mind, that I will only do this once 1880. I will not do this for any future game that is developed from now on under Rails 1.x. This is a lot of work to do to narrow down all those little bits and now that Rails 2.0 is really close to finalize, there is no reason to keep working on Rails 1.x. And I for sure do not want to repeat this experience. ;-) To make things easier, I will give more information what are best practices to implement a new game in Rails 2.0. However I want to have Rails 2.0 out of the door, before I seriously start writing about it. In the meantime best thing to do, is simply asking. Stefan |

I think it would be easier for me to grasp git if I wasn't trying to work it through eclipse. :) I absolutely think that the problem is that I had a local branch with the wrong remote branch. Mike: git actually is not that difficult to grasp as soon as you realize that branches are basically dynamic pointers to the most current commit (the head) of that branch. So restoring the branch only requires resetting the pointer to the correct commit. (in our case rails_1.7.12_1880). Most likely there is no use for rails_1.7.12_1880 anyway, as there is a rails_1.8.x which superseded the older branch. The other thing might be that after resetting the branch, the commit might be unreachable in a sense, that it belongs to no history of a branch (history starts at the head of the branch and then following the linked commits up to the top of the tree). So check which commits you intended to push to the repo and make sure that they do not get lost. Most likely you had a local branch with a wrong tracking (remote) branch. You can display all your local branches with the corresponding tracking branches using git branch -l -vv (-vv => very verbose) Potentially you should change your tracking branch to the correct remote. git branch -u origin/foo if you have checked out the local branch that should track foo. You can get a good picture about what happened with the following tool: gitk --all If you need more help, try google the question restricted to site:stackoverflow.com, which usually has all the answer Or simply ask ;-) Stefan On 03/17/2014 06:24 PM, Michael Alexander wrote: > No, I do not know how to revert it. No, I do not know how to revert it. I was going to have to figure that out. Unfortunately, git is not really my strong suit. Hi Martin: did occur to me, but with many more files. Most likely those are the svg that I manually edited on a unix system. For which branch did this occur and I assume that you checkout rails_2_develop branch sometime before. Problem is that rails_2_develop is now normalized, but branches that have not merged the normalization yet, show this behavior if checked out later. Try the following from the command line, that re-scans the working directory and might help. Otherwise simply ignore those messages and try to merge the normalization solution from rails_2_develop soon. $ rm .git/index # Remove the index to force git to $ git reset # re-scan the working directory $ git status # Show files that will be normalized This is part of the second answer to the following stackoverflow question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1510798/trying-to-fix-line-endings-with-git-filter-branch-but-having-no-luck/1511273 On 03/16/2014 06:33 PM, Martin Brumm wrote: > Hi Stefan, > > i get the occasional linefeed problem particular in the svg-tiles > section. Ok this narrows things down: However in both branches mbr_rails_2_develop_1880 and sfy_1880 StockRound_1880 consists of only 50 lines of code with no reference to StartCompany_1880. All examples below only exist in branch rails1.8.x. Either that got lost during the integation into Rails 2.0 or the code was added later to rails1.8.x? Does anyone has a good idea, how to fix that and if there are more deviations between rails1.8.x and the integrated code of sfy_1880? I started a four player game of 1856 and had these problems. * As with 1830, the "privates" line in Game Status is blank, though the Map window does show them once a company buys them in. * The ability to undo several turns (by clicking on a step in Game Report and then "Play from here" does not function. I can undo turns, but only by using Moderator -> Forced Undo in the Game Status window. * A railroad that takes a loan buys in the Ship private during the tile-laying phase of its turn is not being allowed to place the port token before running. It is not offered as an option during the token-laying phase, and if I select Special -> Lay port token, nothing happens. |

<html> <head> </head> <body>I referred to StartCompany_1880, the action subclass of StartCompany. I thought that Martin meant that StartCompany_1880 was only used by StartRound_1880 which was later replaced by your new classes. But may be I am wrong...<br> <br><br><div class="gmail_quote">Michael Alexander <out...@gm...> wrote:<blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); padding-left: 1ex;"> <div> StartRound or StartCompany? And actions are never created dynamically,<br/> as far as I know.<br/> <br/> And in fact the game engine only creates StartCompany actions. However<br/> in Martins save file examples there are StartCompany_1880 actions<br/> included. This does not work in Rails 2.0, as the check if the players<br/> only execute allowed actions is active. And it checks that the actions<br/> are of the same class.<br/> <br/> Could shed some light on this? I had a quick glance on your rails1.8.x<br/> branch and it seems that there is neither a call to the constructors.<br/> However in Rails 1.x the test if actions are allowed was never active.<br/> <br/> Thanks for your help,<br/> Stefan<br/> <br/> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br/> Learn Graph Databases - Download FREE O'Reilly Book<br/> "Graph Databases" is the definitive new guide to graph databases and their<br/> applications.
