Automation with external knobs broken after update from 0.8 to 0.9

Hello there, I'm on Ubuntu 18, and as of writting new to Qtractor: last week I got automation of lv2 plugins working with my Arturia minilab (a fantastic moment! ) This was on Qtractor 0.8.x (from Ubuntu repo). Today there was an update to 0.9.12 and this broke the knobs: in Properties > MIDI Controller, a knob still gets recognised. But turning it does not do anything. (same for ladspa plugin, btw)
Up till now, I was only using Calf lv2 plugins (kxstudio3 repo). As a test I've now also installed shw-lv2 (ubuntu repo), and I got these working, but only sometimes.
check whether MIDI input connections are OK (as it was last week, as you say).
also, try to re-assign the same MIDI controllers again to same subjects (plugin parameters) and save to another session, with a different filename, so that one may compare what's changed.
then you may provide here the two session files (.qtr) for deeeper investigation.
thanks
[solved] 'Hook' needs to be checked.
Also before some knobs did not get recognised, especially when tried already a moment before.
(Last week was a small test file, which I did overwrite yesterday. The values in the xml looked ok, though. )
2/ Also I started to look only at the mixer from Qtractor for checking midi connections, instead of leaving the mixer from qjackctl open, as those two seem to deviate (even after refreshing both). At first, connections made eg in Inputs of the midi controler pop-up, showed up under the ALSA tab in qjackctl, while the midi tab was empty (?). Now (after also been updated?), qjackctl shows a nice graph instead.
Question: In these midi controler windows, can we always leave the Channel = 1 and Direct Access = None ?
