This only seems to affect the batch processor, but
1) the "TIFF (16-bit)" option means filenames actually come out with ".TIFF (16 bits)" as an extension - so other apps e.g. digiKam doesn't recognize their existence
2) For all that I requested 16-bit TIFFs, the files are only 8-bit. Example output from ImageMagick's identify(1):
