I have 2.2GHz box, with on-board Intel8x0 sound chip
running Debian Sid with custom realtime kernel
2.6.23.13 and
fluidsynth.svn.20071227 (about same as Fluidsynth
1.0.8)
qsynth 0.3.2
jackd 0.109.2
qjackctl 0.2.22
kmid 4:3.5.8
There is problem whatsoever if I use
merlin_8mbgm_plus13.sf2.
The following happens when I use qsynth with
FluidR3_GS.sf2 and FluidR3_GM.sf2. Their md5sum are:
4a198aca9c76bf81db5e0c9e873291f0 FluidR3_GM.sf2
ac00a4343e86f1f734f4da7c8dcb4c83 FluidR3_GS.sf2
Using qjackctl, qsynth, kmid, I got qsynth to
consistently crash trying to play this midi file:
http://62.131.235.156/midiweb/G/gypsy_kings_the/bambolero-gypsy_kings.mid
Sometimes qsynth just disappears. Sometimes it shows
"lost connection to jack". Sometimes qjackctl stops
(the Start button becomes enabled). Sometimes
qjackctl disappears.
Fluidsynth plays the midi file directly fine without
jackd/qjackctl:
fluidsynth FluidR3_GM.sf2 FluidR3_GS.sf2
bambolero-gypsy_kings.mid
Fluidsynth plays the midi file directly fine with
jackd/qjackctl:
fluidsynth -a jack -j FluidR3_GM.sf2
FluidR3_GS.sf2 bambolero-gypsy_kings.mid
Fluidsynth also works fine in server mode with
jackd/qjackctl, using kmid to play the file:
fluidsynth -s -a jack -j FluidR3_GM.sf2
FluidR3_GS.sf2
So the problem points to qsynth at this point. Not
sure if my system is missing some updates for
libarries or other things that qsynth depends on. I
don't normally do "apt-get update" with Debian Sid. I
normally install the latest version of
certain/selected packages and let apt pull in all the
dependencies it needs. Which is a little more stable
than "apt-get update" with Sid. So theoretically,
qsynth has ervery dependencies it needs already.
If someone here has FluidR3 soundfonts and want to
give it a try, I'd like it as a sanity check to verify
the problem is reproducible elsewhere, not just my
setup (hardware or software wise).
Thanks,
Jimmy
