Hello, I have a Lenovo X300, 2 gig ram, 60 gig SSD HDD, and have installed Q4OS on it. Works very well, with the exception of camera and sound in Skype....no sound and no video, any suggestions? Also I would like to know if there should be some kind of swap disk.

thanks for a really good distro,

    john

If you have sound problems in skype, you may be missing 'libpulse'. Please follow this howto https://wiki.debian.org/skype to get the camera working.

Yes, Q4OS uses swap disk, it is created automatically during installation.

Tried that, still not working..I should mention that audio works fine when watching video or film on pc....

In options in skype for Sound Devices the only option is for a virtual device, no sounds whatsoever. further when I check the video options I get a little square with a video of meg...so I just cannot get the video and sound to work in Skype. Is there an easy way to chec that the microphon is working_

      thanks

First try to install complete pulseaudio server in terminal:
$ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio pavucontrol
Reboot and check skype sound oprions.

Using 'pavucontrol' tool you can check microphone input too.

Thank you, that fixed the audio problems. That which remains is the video.

In skype when I choose, video devices I see a picture of me, but whhen I try a video call there is no option for a video call.....

    From https://wiki.debian.org/skype :

The user skype is running as must also be a member of the video group.

Also note that if Enable Skype Video is disabled when Skype starts it will never find your webcam (as of version 4.3).
So check in the menus, Skype->Options->Video Devices->Enable Skype Video. Enable it, close skype completely (watch for it in your system tray - close it fully), then start it again.

Hmmm....sorry for the delay, the only thing remaining is that I have previously signed in in Skype with user name, password and skype video works on my other machine. I am not doing group video, only one to one, in as much as video is visible when the option menu is open I would expect that it would be possible to make a video call to another skyp person in my list.....I have enabled skype video, and start video automatically when i call. Started and restarted skyp, even gone so far as turn pc off and on just to check if that was needed.

    Hello Again,

Just have to admit my inadequacies, both with Q4OS and skype....in the version of skype that I had been using there was a seperate button for video call. This confused me a bit, especially when the audio did not work either. Today I was able to make a call that switched automatically to video some seconds after it was answered. I would like to thank the Q¤OS team for their help and consider this to be solved.

    regards

    john
