Action - I wish to clear all files from wastebin.
As a user I expect that I can do this by right click and select Empty Wastebin

Result - Empty Wastebin is greyed out so cannot action.

Workaround 1. Open Wastebin and select all or some items then do Shift-Delete to remove them.

Workaround 2. chmod 0777 /opt/trinity/share/apps/kdesktop/Desktop/Trash. This is far from ideal.

Workaround 3. It may also be possible to hide the system based Wastebin and then create a new one as the user.

The cause seems to be that the Wastebin is owned by root and that user does not have permissions to activate the Empty Wastebin function.

A more elegant fix would be welcome - or any other suggestions?

We are not able to reproduce, we can empty the thrash bin from desktop as a user anyway. Anyone else could confirm the issue ?

Thank you for the confirmation. I have done a bit more digging and found a rather puzzling situation.
What I had not thought about was that the only files I had been deleting are from a Windows program I use for managing and editing photos, called Faststone Image Viewer. This is run using Crossover Office which is a commercial Wine implementation with a few extra bells and whistles.

If I delete a file from there and then use a file manager (Midnight Commander) to look in my .local/share/Trash/files I can see the deleted photo(s). If I then Open Trash by double click on the desktop Wastebin the item is not visible. If I then Reload the view by f5 the file is visible.
If, instead of reloading, I then just delete a file via Konqeror the the previously non-visible deleted photo appears along with the freshly deleted text file (or whatever it was).

So, clearly this is an issue relating to how deleted files from the Windows prog are being handled by konqueror. Curious but not worth worrying about - my apologies for taking up your time.

Thank you, it's important information in fact, we will take a look.
