Hi. Due to packaging problems in the fifteenth release, and a code snafu the bit the Cocoa interface, I'm releasing the sixteenth version of PythonCAD. The missing Cocoa files have been added, and a patch addressing the Layer problems on Cocoa have been applied. Additionally a small patch for chamfers and fillets is in this release as well, but otherwise this release is identical to the fifteenth release. My thanks to David Haas for contributing the Cocoa interface code, and resolving the problems in the fifteenth release. Hi. I've rebuilt the downloadable archive, and it contains the missing '.nib' files that the initial tar files had missed. I think the 'buildapp.py' file should work now. My apologies for missing these files beforehand. If you have problems running the program, please post messages to the PythonCAD mailing list. I do not have a Mac here; I will be forwarding messages sent to me to David Haas. As he's the author of the code, and has a nice powerbook running things, he'll be able to help. I know he's subscribed to the pythoncad mailing list as well, so please send comments, suggestions, and bug reports there. Here's the mailing list address: pyt...@py... David's address: dav...@uw... Hi. I've uploaded two archives containing the missing files for people wanting to try out PythonCAD under Cocoa. The files are available on the same page the released tar archive is given: http://www.pythoncad.org/download.html People using subversion to retreive the code will have these files as they are checked into the public subversion repository. The download page above has instructions for getting the PythonCAD code via subversion for those interested. Sorry about this hiccup in the release. I'm pleased to announce the fifteenth development release of PythonCAD, a CAD package for open-source software users. As the name implies, PythonCAD is written entirely in Python. The goal of this project is to create a fully scriptable drafting program that will match and eventually exceed features found in commercial CAD software. PythonCAD is released under the GNU Public License (GPL). PythonCAD requires Python 2.2 or Python 2.3. The interface is GTK 2.0 based, and uses the PyGTK module for interfacing to GTK. The design of PythonCAD is built around the idea of separating the interface from the back end as much as possible. By doing this, it is hoped that both GNOME and KDE interfaces can be added to PythonCAD through usage of the appropriate Python module. Addition of other interfaces will depend on the availability of a Python module for that particular interface and developer interest and action. The fifteenth release of PythonCAD offers users on Mac OS X a native, Cocoa based interface utilizing the Python/Objective-C bridge. The Python/Objective-C code is available at http://pyobjc.sf.net/. A nice side benefit from the development of the Cocoa code was the exposure of various bugs and design issues in the interface neutral code. Bugs exposed by this work have been fixed, and several design improvements are now in the code thanks to this work. The Cocoa interface code is contributed by David Haas, and I thank him greatly for his work. This release includes several more undo/redo improvements. The addition and removal of points on a polyline can now be undone or redone, and assorted other editing operations have improved undo/redo handling as well. A variety of bug fixes have also been added in this release. Small bugs regarding entity searching, arc boundaries, layer addition and removal, and entity storage have been fixed. A few code improvements appear in this release also. The mailing list for the development and use of PythonCAD is available. Visit the following page for information about subscribing and viewing the mailing list archive: http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/pythoncad Visit the PythonCAD web site for more information about what PythonCAD does and aims to be: http://www.pythoncad.org/ Come and join me in developing PythonCAD into a world class drafting program! You don't have a compiled TestPy class and, as such, there is no way for the linker-- static, dynamic, zero, whatever-- to know how to resolve the resulting symbol. Try: [[[NSClassFromString(@"TestPy") alloc] init] test] |

Hi, I want to use python from a Cocoa application other than as a class in a .nib file. I have this working somewhat but there are a couple of problems: 1) I need to run on 10.2.x and above but PyObjC is not not included in 10.2.x. Thus I would like to embed the Python framework in my application. 2) While my example runs with ZeroLink enabled I get a linker error with ZeroLink disabled: ld: Undefined symbols: .objc_class_name_TestPy I use the basic files from the SimpleConboBoxPlus example: PythonGlue.h PythonGlue.m PythonGlue.py I added to the top of main() in main.m: NSAutoreleasePool* pythonAutoreleasePool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; [[PythonGlue alloc] init]; I added the following resource file TestPy.py: from Foundation import * class TestPy(NSObject): def test(self): print "TestPy:test" In my application I added: [[[TestPy alloc] init] test]; Any help and comments will be appreciated. The problem solves itself! I used one of the constants in the NSWindow documentation. Setting the window level to NSPopUpMenuWindow does the trick, ordering the window in front of the dock and menubar. The relevant documentation is here: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Reference/ ApplicationKit/ObjC_classic/Classes/NSWindow.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/ 20000013/BCIGAIJC Frederik |

Hi, I'm a bit stumbling with accessing CoreGraphics for making fullscreen apps. The tutorial on cocoadevcentral (http://cocoadevcentral.com/articles/000028.php) points out that you should use CoreGraphics (part of the ApplicationServices framework). However, it seems that the functions I need (CGDisplayCapture and CGShieldingWindowLevel) are not part of the CoreGraphics API. Is there any way I can access these? More specifically, I need to know the shielding window level. (I currently have it at 2147483631, but I don't know if this is a fixed value) Any idea how I could find that number under PyObjC? Other techniques for creating full-screen apps under PyObjC are welcome too. Kind regards, Frederik |

Dear pyobjc developers: First of all, I want to say that the svn download and browsing experience was great, and the install has been remarkably smooth. TableModel ran out of the box (random sanity check). Sweet. Thank you for a great job. FYI, while installing and exploring the pyobjc from svn, I discovered a couple of minor typos in the pyobjc/Install.html file. Here they are: 1. Early on: <location and update the variable LIBFF_SOURCES at the top of setup.py. The released version of PyObjC includes a compatible version of >location and update the variable LIBFFI_SOURCES at the top of setup.py. The released version of PyObjC includes a compatible version of [Note the LIBFF --> LIBFFI.] 2. Under Xcode: </Library/Application Support/Apple/Development Tools/File Templates >/Library/Application Support/Apple/Developer Tools/File Templates [Ditto for next line as well.] Neither of these are showstoppers, but all will upgrade the copy-and-paste convenience of the pyobjc install expierence. Thanks! = Joe = |

What I do is I make a "Dependencies" group in the project, and I drag over folder references and pth files for PyObjC and whatever other packages and modules I used. -bob |

If you modify an iVar directly, there is no way for KVO to know that the value has changed. b.bum |

Sigh. One way to solve this is to add accessor methods for getting and setting the counter and using those to modify the value of the counter: class Bump (...): def init(self): self = super(...).init(self) self._counter = 0 return self def counter(self): return self._counter counter = objc.accessor(counter) def setCounter_(self, value): self._counter = value setCounter_ = objc.accessor(setCounter_) def bump(self): self.setCounter_(self.counter() + 10) > > This is beyond what I can fathom but this does work in Objective C Does it? I know this that is why I went to python and CG. I had started it in pure objc but then realised it needed the window server connection. Hi, I am writing an image renderer in python using the core graphics bindings and all the image rendering is working like a charm. The problem I have come across is that when I try to render text, the methods that are exposed have very limited functionality. What I wanted was something like app kits [NSString drawInRect:withAttributes:]. I am running the script from a webobjects application so there may not be a user logged in. This would mean I cannot use the appkit py-objc bridge? I have seen in other mailing list archives that I would have to use ATSUI for the text rendering. I would like to know if anyone knows if there are bindings for ATSUI or if there is another way around rendering text into the image. Any help is greatly appreciated Regards, Greg |
